EXECUTIVE UFFICER Commander Robert L. Wessman I Commander Wessman is a native of Pontiac, Michigan. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Ohio State University in 1952 and was commissioned an Ensign in June of that year through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps. Upon graduation CDR Wessman re- ported to the USS MINDORO QCVE 1203 at Norfolk, Virginia and he served aboard the MINDORO for two and one-half years as Assistant Navigator. From December 1954 until May of 1955 CDR Wessman attended the Navy Combat Information Center course at Glenview, Illinois, thereafter reporting to the USS R. L. WILSON QDDE 8741 as the Operations Officer, a billet he' filled until June of 1957. CDR Wessman next reported to Fleet Training Group, San Diego, California as a Training Supervisor and fulfilledthis billet until June of 1959. For the next two years CDR Wessman served aboard the USS ELDORADO QAGC 113 as the Communications Officer and First Lieutenant. Then, in June of 1961, CDR Wessman reported to Commander Destroyer Squadron Seventeen as Operations Officer and Chief Staff Officer remaining in this billet until March of 1963. Then CDR Wessman proceeded to Washington, D.C. as a Military Intelligence Officer, Defense Intelligence Agency, remaining there until October 1965. He joined the TAUSSIG in November just prior to the commencement of Refresher Training as the ship's Executive Officer. Medals worn by the Commander include: National Defense tsecond awardj, China Service, and Vietnam Service. He was promoted to the rank of Commander on the 1st of September 1966.
