The news staff and luki staff were composed of many seniors md the athletic and music departments were based on their talent and ability. Officers chosen to lead the class in their final years were: president, ack XValkerg vice-president, Richard Hayes: secretary, ames Doyleg treasurer, Betty Conradg and sponsor, Miss Hinkhouse. The gossamer butterflies, giant toad stools, silvered trees, and huge summer flowers made a very picturesque setting. Bob Lipka's orchestra furnished the music for the dinner and dance. These energetic juniors worked hard to finance this anticipated event. "Holiday Ifrolicf' the junior party held in December, was ii most successful event of the year. Here he is taught cooperation and develops his own individual talent in the fields of music, athletics. or journalism. The sophomores of 1947 are an excellent illustration of a model class. Undoubtedly, "Sweetheart Swing." the Sophomore Class party. was one of the most outstanding events on the schools social calendar. It was the result of careful planning and united effort. These students were elected by the juniors to serve at the annual junior-Senior Prom: jack Evans, Roger Hill, Ben Jones, Bill Kriegel, Joe Ledvina. Tom O'Con- nor, Don Ollman, Hubert Rehik, Gary Stigers, Ann Peters, Patty Guy, Mary Lou Houdyshell, Estella Millard, Mary jo Prochaska, Elaine Rebik, Jeanette Tesar. and Betty Vail. FRESIIIES PROVE FAITIIFIII. Last autumn as the leaves fell to the ground, frightened freshmen entered the halls of Tama High School. As the school year came to a close these same freshmen emerged as a new group, having acquired poise and self-tnonfideme. The various activities were greatly benefited by the enthusiastic participation of the freshmen. The freshmen were under the able leadership of the following class officers: Gary Strine, presidentg Joan lfrahm, vice-presidentg Vernon Vavra, secretaryg Dick Long, treasurer, Mr. Pannkuk, sponsor. Congratulations to a very fine freshmen class, and may their freshmen year be a firm basis for life. Pillar ilizznztry-jffzn ffffu -n. gff X 9 l X XP ,f P X Q 2-5 f Xfjff' SKX I X fy , W iv fwligg . THE BAND MARCIIES ON XVith the tramping of feet and the beating of drums, the THS Band marched off with many honors for another successful season. Mr. A. Ariel Cross, the conductor of this outstanding organization, had another very profitable year. Wfith the new drum major, james Owens, the band was really a snappy look- ing unit with a total of 418 members plus the color guard. The musicians successfullly demonstrated their abilities between the halves of every home football game. A special function of the band was its participation in the Centennial celebrations. During the sum- mer the band performed at Iowa City, Wziterloo, and Toledo, receiving a first division rating at all three places. They also went on two tours advertising Tama's Fall Festival. Climaxing these activities was their participation in the State Marching Band Contest at Waverly. They received a second division rating. Mr. Cross introduced a new art in band this year-that of flag twirling. Jeannette Tesar represented us in that division in contest and received a second division rating. Evelyn Kupka also entered the baton twirling division. Following these eventful performances, the season came to a close. For the seniors it was the last marching season, for the underclassmen the job goes on to make each season a little better than the last. Page Tu wztj-.tix - hail mu: VI. Schroeder.
