Foreword It means much to us. It is our home... To many of us it is the only home we have ever known. It makes our memories... happy moments, and sad moments. It means much to each of us....As you turn the pages, we hope we can bring back some of these memories..... 2 kl-MM Staff Nancy Pease, Co-Editor; Joanette Gauthier, Business Manager; Cheryl Huse, Advertising Manager; Nancy Glenn Co-Editor . Mr. William A. Ziegner Adviser This years annual staff spent a great deal of time and work to make this one of the best annuals we have ever had. Many long hours were spent pasting, typing, dummying, and selling ads. Another deadline had to be met. We wish to extend our special thanks to Mr. Ziegner, our advieer, for all his help, advice and patience. We also want to thank the Ted Gatz Studio for their excellent photography, which has helped make this annual a success. 3 Foreword . . . KI-AH-YU Staff Dedication . . Administration Seniors . . . Sports . . . . Classes . . . Organizations Advertising I INDICATION In honor of his faithful service as a busdriver for the TaHoMa School District, the annual staff proudly dedicates this year's KI-AH-YU to Mr. Nathan Pumfrey. Mr. Pumfrey has been a bus driver on the same route for the past 12 years. This year, many of us graduate realizing that he is the only busdriver we have known. It is with great honor and deep appreciation that we dedicate this, the 1961-62 KI-AH-YU to you, Mr. Pumfrey. Superinteiidenl This is the year of Century 21. You are indeed fortunate in having the opportunity to experience first-hand all the wonders of the Space Age as portrayed by the Fair. I challenge you as students to better train yourselves for space age living. You cannot afford to be satisfied with the training of those who have preceded you in the histroy of mankind. In order to enjoy successful living, you are charged with the responsibility of becoming better and more comprehensively trained. Accept this obligation so that our way of life may be preserved with the fervent hope that man regardless of race or creed may find the secret of living together in peace and happiness. Prinripal Just as most of us will always be influenced by the land around us so too, you will always be influenced or even enslaved by your ideals. We hope you have gained the ground work for high enough ideals that you will at least be sustained thru the crisis and turmoil which presently seems to be our wont. The future will not be too bright tho, unless we can also hope that your education has inspired you to establish aims and aspirations that will help you realize your greatest potential; for only as you do realize your greatest potential can we hope to dispell the present mantle of gloom and embrace the brighter tomorrow. Best wishes to that end for each of you. Neil Helgeland 8 Duayne Cherry: Chorus B.A., C.W.S.C. Ilur Fanillv Provides________ Otto Moore: Study Hall, Attendance Officer B.A., U. of W. After twelve long, hard, fun-filled years we have finally come to the cIimax--graduation. lute started as 83 wide-eyed, wondering freshman who thought high school was great. Just one big ball. That was before initiation. The seniors proved their superiority, and we were content to be mere slaves. Our leaders that year were: Ron Hunter, President; Ron Krall, Vice- Presiuent; Nancy Pottle, Secretary: and Joanette Gauthier, Treasurer. Our Advisers: Hr. H. A. Morse (for our first three years) and Mrs. Herrin. As our class colors, we ciiose turquoise and •hite, and our flower was the carnation. As grown-up sopi.omores, w. returned ir the number of 08. Our officers that year included: Nancy Pottle, President; Sherrie Ander- son, Vice-rresident; Betty Taylor, Secretary; Gayle Williams, Treasurer; and Charlie Brown, Sergeant of Arms. As money making projects, we had a paper drive, a bake sale, and a dance, the Sophomore Hop . We also had the spaghetti dinner for homecoming. The next year we returned as 6l juniors. Upper classmen at last. We were lead by: Sherrie Anderson, President; Don Krall, Vice- President; Nancy Glenn, Secretary; Ron Krall, Treasurer; and Celia Dougherty and Al Landiri as Sergeant of Arms. Mr. D. Tollefson assisted Mr. Morse as Adviser. Our income that year consisted of a b ke sale, and uie again handled the spaghetti dinner for homecoming. With the seniors we had a Junior-Senior Prom. At last we have finally reached our fourth ond final year of high school. Although we didn’t have any freshmen to push around, we let the so[ homores knos there were 57 mighty Seniors at TaHoMa. Mason 27 BOB MARLATT—Tahoma's 4 year veteran pitcher was one of the main stays of the Bear nine this season. Bob will be lost from the squad through graduation, DUN' KRALL-Converted from second baseman to pitcher last season, Don performed creditably at his new position. [Mil II1 BOB BENEDITTI-During his second season as a catcher, Bob performed like a veteran behind the plate. RUSTY IIOLDER-Always dependable on the field, Rusty, a two year letterman, is one of the better left fielders in the league. MIKE SCOTT-Mike's good hitting ability and capable play at second base make him an invaluable squad member. BILL YERNuR-Bill played an important roll as utility infielder and third base coach. PHIL WALSlI-apeedy Phil made the running game go with his daring base running. DARRYL WEIDE-After a slow Frosli start, Darryl developed into a good hitter and fine glove man at first base. Darryl has two more years of elegibility left. MIKE GARRETT-Only a Soph., Mike has developed into one of the fin est young pitchers in the league. JOEY GAUTHIER-sharing catching duties, Joey will brighten the Bear battery for two more years. TERRY JOHNSON-Terry was the leading hitter on the team last year, will be back for two more years at third base. ROY GARRETT-Aggrcssive play at short stop and at the plate made Roy a big team asset. DAN PETCHNICK-Versitile Dan, always dependable on the infield or outfield. RON BURXETT-Relief pitching and pinch hitting were Ron's main duties this year. MAXAGERS-Dave Morris and Steve Markham. The duties of the managers were many. They cared for and distributed equipment, kept records and statistics, shagged balls, and took care of the squad's aches and pains. Rusty Holder Joey Gauthier Terry Johnson Bob Beneditti Bob Marlatt Phil Walsh Bill Vernor BILL FITE, TERRY JUNEVITCH, and HEXRY YEA.CKLE, are prospective players. DICK LOBDELL-Dick's timely pinch hitting and utility outfield play added greatly to strengthen the bench. Don Krall Roy Garrett and Mike Scott Darryl Weide With only two players lost by graduation from last years squad, Coach Don Isaacson looked forward to a successful 1962 baseball season. The two outstanding features of this year's squad were experience and depth. Eleven lettermen and several non-lettering veterans returned to strengthen the Bear's quest for a conference title. Pitching proved to be one of the strong points of the 62 squad, Bob Marlatt, Don Krai1, and Mike Garrett continued to give sparkling performances as they had done in the 1961 season. The big wood men providing the hits and R.B.I.'s were Terry Johnson, Mike Scott. Bob Benedetti, Rusty Holder. Darryl Weide, and Roy Garrett. Because there were no games played at the time of this writing, the boys who finally made this year's team will be given credit in next year's annual. Graduating from the squad in June were Marlatt, and Krall. Cross-Sound League Schedule 1962 April 20 ...Lakeside at Tahoma April 27 ...Tahoma at Vashon May 3 ...K. Garden at Tahoma May 11 ...N. During the latter part of the season the squad showed much improved defensive and offensive play. This was attested by Tahoma's beating a good King's Garden team, in a double header, 4-2 and 1-0, ending the 1961 season on a bright note. 1961 Season Record 6. . . .. .Tolt ... 1 11. . . ...X.
