Bulldogs downed the favored Golden Cranes from the Permian Basin in a hard fought gridiron tilt, 27-20. Crane had the largest team we met all year, but the little 'Dogs just wouldn't be beaten. The game was outstanding in sportsmanship. Both teams were doing their best to win in a good, clean way. This was one of the most thrilling games of the season and it gave the Bullcbgs a little more self-confidence. The 'Dogs had had their ups and downs but never looked better than in this game. TAHOKA 26, BROWNFIELD 20 The Bulldogs traveled to Brownfield for their last game before conference play began. Brown- field had been outplayed in previous years by Tahoka and were ready to gain a win. The Cubs passed continuously during the first half of the game and took an early lead. They also outweighed the 'Dogs and kept them trailing until the half. The Cubs just couldn't stop the 'Dogs during the second half and Tahoka advanced to a 26-20 lead. Brownfield passed frantically, but the alert opponents allowed hardly a Cub pass to be completed. The remaining minutes were mostly a.n aerial and defensive game, for neither team scored again. The final score stood 26-20 for the Bulldogs. 1 .. ff , Q' 'Q-. ,-, .L .QA li-' -'x ' O 4 .- I , A 75 Vu .lg -, Ronnie Brooks - jlmior Guard N . s s f I ? HN X I. V. I. ANTELOPES TIE FAVORHD BULIDOGS, 13-13 The Tahoka Bulldogs opened the conference season by tieing the Post eleven 13-13,on Post's gridiron. Being ahead in the first half of the game, it looked like a conference win for the Bulldogs, who were also pre-game favorites. Post returned with a fighting spirit during the second half, possibly because of a rivalry with the neighboring 'Dogs, and Post's Home- coming event, Their comeback tied the con- ference opener, 13-13. The remaining minutes of the game were tense for both spectators and players aseach team fought for adeciding score, The whistle ending the game soundedg the crowd began to leaveg then came a roar of joy from the Post fans. The announcer had just re- ported, POST on penetrations. If the 'Dogs won, they would still be in the race for District Championshipg a loss would put them out of the running. ln '53, Tahoka traveled to Abernathy to hand them a conference loss of 14-7. Remembering this, the Antelopes were out to upset the Homecoming event for Tahoka. In dismay, the Ante1ope's efforts were in vaing the Bulldogs went to work early in the game and showed the promise that was later to make them the 5-AA Champs. They totaled a final score of 26 points and allowed their opponents only 6. After the game, fans foimd themselves pausing a few minutes to listen to those familiar soimds of the victory bells that were denoting the first conference win for the Bulldogs. The defense of both teams played a tre- mendous game, as proved by a score of 6-6 in the first half. Tahoka scored 6 points in the first quarter? Slaton tying the game with a T.D, in the second quarter. The 'Dogs broke the hold in the last half with one touchdown in the third quarter and went on to make sure of their victory by adding two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Tahoka took the lead over Spur in the first half, 12-2. During the second half, Spur fought hard to score 20 points. Tahoka scored 14 points and surmounted Spur witha final tally of 26-22, Thus, on Thanksgiving Day the Tahoka Bulldogs met the Littlefield Wildcats i.n the S-AA bi- district play-offs on Kelly Field. This is one of the highest honors a person can receive in Tahoka High School. The students felt that he was a good leader and Garland has done well in carrying this out, Vice-President of the Student Council is Gordon Smith, By electing him to this office, the students felt that, in the absence of the president, Gordon was cap able of leading the student body. Betty Carroll is secretary-treasurer of the Student Council. She must keep rec- ords of all meetings and finances of the Council. To report on the Student Councils func- tions, the students chose janet Dube. Her Job isn 't particularly difficult, but she is called upon for many other things which keep her busy. For parliamentarian, the student body of Tahoka High School ele et e d the one most capable for this Job, Ted Pridmore. Ted must see that the meetings of the Stu- dent Couneil are carried off according to parliamentary procedure. The editor and assistant editor work together with the sponsor to check and recheck every page before it is sent to be published. They also plan the buildings, faculty, division pages, title page, dedication, forward, and dummy. The sports editors have an interesting but difficult section. They must see that each athlete has his picture i.n that section. A must for the snap- shot editor is to be handy with her camera at all times. She must try to capture everyday life around Tahoka High in her section. One of the hardest Jobs is that of the class editors. They must see that every student is pictured with correctly spelled names. The feature section of the yearbook is sometimes considered the most interesting part, To the editor of this section goes the job of planning pictures and keeping certain little secrets. Qualifications are spirit, pep, and dependability. Dressed in the school colors, blue and white, the cheer- leaders have shown up at every football game and pep rally to create school spirit that is necessary for making a good football team. The cheerleaders' sweaters were presented to them by the Tahoka Athletic Club. They made their own uniforms during the summer and in their spare time they practiced very hard for the job that they were to fill. With the patter of feet in the hall and a muffled giggle, you may rest assured that it's just the office girls doing their usual duties. Running up and down the stairs on different mis- sions , collecting absentees, taking announcements, ringing bells, and drinking cokes are just a few among their many, many duties. The office girls work together in pairs, two for each period. Each girl must be capable, courteous, and willing to help at all times. Yet, with their packed and busy schedules, these girls find time to assist Mr. Jacobs in the office. Connie Fenton and johnece Clem. B jerry Cain and Sue Miller. In order for a school to ftmction properly, there is usually a certain group of students that offer their service daily to the rest of the student body. These are, of course, the libr arian S. They check out books, shelve books, and collect book fines. All of the librarians are a cheerful and pleasant group from which to get your reading needs. They are willing to help you at all times, The librarians are composed of four grades, Freshmen to Seniors. The eighth grade is not left out by any means, they get to serve at the Christmas Banquet. The next year they get to take the Senior's places. Each year the Club holds a formal Christmas Banquet in the home of one of its members. This is an annual and gala affair. They also have several parties during the year. The Library Club is sponsored by Mrs. Pittman and was organized several years ago, The group has its own officers who preside at all called meetings. This is when it became known as the Future Homemakers of America. Toward New Horizons , the motto of the F. H. A., well describes the goal of this or- ganization. The purpose is leaming to live better todays in order that our lives and those of our families may be better tomorrows. Sponsored by Mrs. Hegi, Tahoka's chapter has accomplished many things this year. By selling concessions at football and basketball games the F. H. A. was able to buy two lamps for the homemaking cottage. Each ye ar, the F. H. A. sponsors the initiation of the freshman girls, an all school tea, sales of Christmas Cards, and a faculty tea.
