The 1971-72 season started out as a rebuilding year for the young Tigers with only two lettermen returning from the previous years' Coast League Champions. The team matured rapidly, winning 7 and losing 3 in the non-league schedule, including the consolation championship game at the Cascade Tournament. The Tigers then moved to league play again finishing in a tie with Reedsport, both teams with a 9 and 3 record. In the district championship game at Siuslaw the Tigers were defeated by the Reedsport Braves. This sent the Tigers to the State Tournament as the number two team in the district. This was the second year in a row the Tigers had gone to the Tournament held in Eugene. Leading the team was senior Harold Browning with first-team All-State, the first time for a Taft player. He also received first team A11-Coast and was chosen as Most Valuable Player. Dave Hopkins received Honorable Mention All-State and first team All-Coast. Taft High School was host to the tenth American Field Service student to come to the school since the beginning of the program in 1960. Bela Cavalcanti, whose home is near Sao Paulo, Brazil, has charmed the students this year with her sincerity and friendliness. Bela has been active in all of the school affairs and was made an honorary member of the National Honor Society. Bela mastered the English language in a very short time and was able to compete with the other students in all her classes-excelling in one-French. She will truly be missed and Tait High School will be the richer for her presence here. Kiwanis Students KIWANIS STUDENTS September. . October , . November . . December . . January . . February . .
