Joe Oill and Mike Evans, Juniors, were high bowlers with 175 and 160, respectively. The high spot of the season came with the upset of tied-for- first-place Clarke with a four-one victory for Syosset. Syosset High School is not easily forgotten by its rivals and few competitors regard us as a pushover. TRACK They say, ln spring some men's fancies turn to love but that's ridiculous, it turns to the nearest cinder track. The red suits swarmed over the Syosset track field and brought honor and distinction to the alma mater. Kim Kimball, Bernie Bontemps, Jim Peeler and Louis Yannotti shared the outstanding track positions of 1959. By mid-season Kimball was approaching the six foot high- jump mark and the rest of the team was doing its best to break all past records. The big field of the battling Braves was a display of all regulation track events: shot, discus, pole vault, high jump, track relay, milers, the 440, 220 and 100 yard dash. We played hard, skillfully, bravely and sportingly. The coaches Clint Miller and Dick Herzer practiced the cinder men hard and long. The school was very proud of the fine record piled up at season's end. Olympic records: watch out for Syosset! Top Row: Mr. Miller, B. Watson, R. Poduska, S. Kule, D. Buchanan A. Whoppus, H.
