Upon graduation from East Tennessee State University, he received his commission from Officer's Candidate School in 1968. Commander Chase's first duty station was as a computer systems analyst with the National Military Command Systems Support Center in the Pentagon. After graduation from Supply Corps School in Athens, GA, he Was assigned as Supply Officer in USS FORT SNELLING CLSD-301. From July 1975 to May 1978 he was Operations Analysis Officer with the Subsistence Directorate at Defense Personnel Support Center, Philadelphia, PA. He served as Data Processing and Inventory Control Officer at Naval Supply Center, Pearl Harbor, HI from July 1978 to May 1981. During this tour, he also received a Masters of Science degree in Systems Management from the University of Southern California. From June 1981 to June 1984, Commander Chase ' C d ' Wash- Qeged alsyghe ADP!Telecommunications Branch head with the Naval Supply Systems omman in in on, , He was assigned as Director, Data Processing Department, Naval Supply Center, Norfolk, VA from July 1984 to May 1987. Reporting to USS SYLVANIA CAFS-25 in June 1987, Commander Chase assumed duties is Supply Officer and participated in a Mediterranean deployment as the on-station AFS from January to Une 988 Commander Chase is authorized to wear the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with Gold Star Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement ' R'bb Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation and Sea SGTVICS 1 on. Commander William C. Reed was born in East Cleveland, Ohio. After enlisting in the Naval Reserve in 1964, he l 'f' d F was c assi 16 as an TB when subsequently selected for the Naval Academy PrepaI:at01'y School- Graduating from the United States Naval Academy in 1969, he entered Nuclear Power Tfalnlng After a brief stop at Submarine School, New London, he reported to USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN QSSBN 6021 Gold in December 1970, and was designated a Submarine Officer in February 1972. In October 1974, he t d ' ' repor e to USS PHILADELPHIA CSSN 6905 Precomm Unit where he served until medically disqualified from submarines and the unrestricted line in 1975. Commander Reed was transferred to Naval Security Group Activity, Homestead, where he served as a Cryptologic Direct Su t D t h ' ' ' ' ' ppor e ac ment OIC in various ships of the Atlantic Fleet Designated a Cryptologlst ' 1977 h ' in , e was re-assigned as Operations Officer and Alternate Net Control Officer at Naval Security Group Activity, Skaggs Island, in 1978. In June 1980, having medically requalified for the Unrestricted Line, Commander Reed was detailed as Engineer Officer ' USS MIL ' ' ' ' in WAUKEE CAOR 25 and qualified as a Surface Warfare Officer in Eebruary 1982. I M ' ' ' n ay 1982, Commander Reed was assigned as Assistant Chief of Staff, Communications, for Commander, Carrier Group Eight. During his tour, he participated in development of fleet innovations such as SATCAT CALQ 493 and JOTS I O - . n ctober 1984, Commander Reed was assigned to the staff of Command- er, Strikin Fl t Atl ' ' ' g ee , antic, where he served in command, control and communications billets C . . . . ommander Reed Joined SYLVANIA as Executive Officer in January 1987, while deployed in the Mediterranean.
