Q' Executive Officer Commander Robert T. Sollenberger was born in Pensacola, Florida in 1945. The son of a career Naval Officer he lived in various United States and overseas locations prior to entering the U.S. Naval Academy in June 1963. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering and was commissioned an Ensign, U.S. Navy in June 1967. Commander- Sollenberger's first fleet assignment was as Missile Officer in USS King QDLG 101 during which he made txvo deployments to the Western Pacific and Vietnam. In January 1970 he reported to USS JOHN PAUL JONES QDDG 321, serving as Fire Control Officer, Weapons Officer, and Operations OHicer in a 3 year period which included two Western Pacific and Vietnam deployments. Between February 1973 and March 1975 he attended the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California as a member of the first class in the new Operational Systems Technicology QASW1 Curriculum, and graduated with a Master of Science Degree. Following this he reported to the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD where he taught courses in Weapons, Marine Engineering, and Systems Engineering for two years. During this tour of duty he earned a Master of Science Degree in Administration from the George Washington University. Following the Naval Academy assigmnent Commander Sollenberger received advanced training in marine propulsion engineering at NPTU, Idaho Falls, ID prior to reporting to USS J OSEPHUS DANIELS QCG 271 in January 1978 as Engineer Officer. During this tour of duty he completed one Mediterranean deployment. In August 1980 he reported to the U.S. Naval War College, Newport, RI as a student in the College of naval Command and Staff. Following graduation in June 1981, he served on the staff of Commander Service Squadron FOUR prior to reporting to USS SYLVANIA QAFS 21 in November 1981 as Executive Officer. Commander Sollenberger's decorations include the Navy Commendation Medal with Combat Vw and 1 Gold Star, the Naxy Achievement Medal with 1 gold star, and the Combat Action Ribbon. Campaign and Service Medals include the National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal fKorea1, Vietnam Service Medal, and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon. Commander Sollenberger resides in Virginia Beach with his wife, the former Pam Brown of San Francisco, and their two children, Jennifer and Bryan. 'You ya gotta add da spices men?
