IIT IS A MUST IFiimish High Scimcoil TO THE YOUNG LADY GRADUATE Today, a girl owes it to herself to know the advantages of a white :o!lar” career before she decides about her future. She may choose from i wide variety of positions, and enjoy fascinating work in her own home own, or in another city. Business is growing so fast that there is a iation-widc shortage of skilled workers. Employers compete among themselves to offer the business-trained roung woman the highest salary, the most pleasant working conditions, ind the best opportunities for promotion. Among the 446 occupations for women listed in the 1950 census, that of stenographer, secretary or typist comes first by a wide margin, with 1,501,090 employed. TO THE YOUNG MAN GRADUATE To help you understand the exciting opportunities and rewards which await the young man who enters business today, we remind you — As a business man, you can choose any field which interests you— manufacturing, merchandising, publishing, banking, transportation—any field at all. You can work for General Motors, for the government, or set yourself up in business. Business men as a group earn the highest incomes in the country. They often travel widely, and frequently enjoy the finest homes, cars, and social standing in their communities. It is estimated that 60'- of all employed men are engaged in business in some form, lor example, the U. S. Census ( 1950) lists 320,799 male accountants, 2.042,229 salesmen and sales clerks, and 4,340,6X7 managers, officials, ami proprietors. Don't Skimp The following quotation from CHANGING TIMES, the Kip- lingcr Magazine, makes this clear: Right no if there arc probably as many as a million office jobs going begging for lack of appli- cants. In the next few years the need will grow even stronger. Don't skimp on your school- ing. Unless you are a high school or business school grad- uate, many companies will not hire you even for beginning jobs —or if they do take you out of necessity, they via be slou to promote yon later. Outlook for the Future The 195 7 Occupational Out- look I landbook , published by the U. S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, states: A shortage of qualified ac- countants is due to a rising de- mand for accountants to assist managnnent in controlling rap- idly expanding business opera- tions. The demand is e spec ted to continue to be strong for the remainder of the decade and during the early 1960’s. There has never before been a time in American History when there was greater demand for higl school graduates technically trained for service in business, industry, and government than then is today.
