Special 'performances included the Halloweien Parade, Armistice Day Parade, All-Star Game, and the Spring Con- cert, which was presented May 1. The results ol the many hours of cooperative practice were very gratifying to our director, Mr. Hili, as well as to the hand memhers, majorettes, and the exceptionally fine Color Guard. A CAPPELLA CHOIR The year 1946-47 has seen a new 'deveiopment of the talent of Swissvaie High. This development is the a cappella choir. Last year in an assemhly program the Edgewood a cap- pella choir sang for the teachers and pupils of Swissvaie High. Their program was very impressive, and the students Iiiced it so well that it was resolved that Swissvaie should have such a choir, too. Tryouts were held at the end of the year and fifty students were choseh to sing in the choir. Under the direction of Mr. Hill, the choir has made laudable progress. The combined choirs of the junior and senior 'high schools worked together to give The Nativity at Christmas. As this presentation was so successiui, plans were made to give other programs at Easter and for the Spring Festival. Both choirs gave request performances lor various town organizations, too. THE CAMERA CLUB The newly organized Camera' Cluh has aI-I the enthu- siasm iior great plans and hetter pictures ahead. The cluh is made up of some forty students, chosen hy way of a rigid test, from the senior, junior, and sophomore classes. Instead of a president, the group is headed hy a committee comprised of Regis Vvintermantel, Paul Baumgartner, Mimi Gross. and .Iim Davis. The ciuh was sponsored by iVIiss Rae Tennant. I-II-Y CLUB President ----- Larry Elliott Vice-president -Don Redshaw Secretary - - .Iohn Harder Treasurer ----- Dan Redshaw The Hi-Y Ciulo, which is a 'high school laranch of the YMCA, was organized in Swissvale High this year under the general supervision of Mr. Bullions. At the initiation ceremony February 24, the officers of the Braddoclc Hi-Y presided while 22 memhers were initiated and the officers installed. Immediately after the cluh was organized, the president appointed a committee to draw up a constitution that would include all the rules of the cluin. This committee was led hy the president and vice-president and the following students made up the appointed com- mittee: .Iohn Harder, Don Vviiicinson. Roloert Wareham. The object of the cluh is to bring to its members high principles of ciean sports, clean speech, ciean scholarship. and ciean living. Its purpose is also to create, maintain, and extend throughout the school and community high stan- dards of Christian character. LATIN CLUB The purpose oi the Romani Hodinari. or Latin Club, is to promote a fuller appreciation of Roman life and literature. Requirements 'for prospective memhers of the club limit the memhership to students with a minimum average ol' 85 70. Election for Latin Cluh oiliicers is held twice a year, new officers 'heing elected for each semester. First semester officers were Paul Harnaclc, president: Ruth Miller, vice-president: IVIarie Homisalc, secretary: Paul Shogren, treasurer. Second semester officers were lVIariIyn Kniseiey, president: Shirley Pearson, vice-president: Helen Henderson, secretary: Paula Kane. treasurer. The cluh appreciated the 'help oi their new sponsor, lVIiss Etter, who aioly assisted us in all we attempted to do. The program committee, headed lay Glenna Layman. provided us with many entertaining programs during the school year. The trite saying, ua good time was had hy all, can he appiied to the clu-h's initiation, even though the new mem- hers had a rough time of it: they reaiized, however, that they'd have their chance next year, when the worm would turn. QUILL AND SCROLL P1-egident .--- Niarilyn Kniseiey Vice-president - Shirley Pearson Secretary-treasurer - - - .Ioanne Hilt The International Honorary Society for High School Jour- naiists, Ioetter Icnown as the Quill and Scroll, started its eighth year in Swissvale High with the impressive formal initiation ceremony, at which time twelve new members toolc their vows and received the gold pin hearing the qui-ll and scroll, the emthlem of the organization. Plans were made for the group to attend the Ice Follies. hold a howiing party, visit the F. B. I., and end the year with their annual picnic. This cluh, under the guidance of Miss Jacobs, is made up oi those juniors and seniors in the upper third oi their class, who have worlced on the Swissvalian or Valistic. I VARSITY CLUB The Varsity Cluh, under the leadership of Coaches Buzard, Dennison, and Koepica, has completed its second year of hringing together the lettermen of Swissvaie High. This group is organized to luring about a hetter under- standing and relationship among the 'boys interested in sports of all kinds. It also aims to promote activities that will foster and help maintain an interest in the athletic program of the school, not only on the part of the fellows participating, hut also among students and the citizens of the thorough. During the year, the organization was responsi'l9le for many oi the dances enjoyed in the gym. It also assumed the responsihility for the refreshment stand at the 'ioothail games. Proceeds from these activities were used to purchase athletic sweaters for aII senior lettermen and to help defray expenses of the ioothall camp. The major project oi the year was the completion of a record of names of all those former students who earned a letter While participating in sports at SHS. The hoys spent many ihours delving into yearhoolcs from 1906, the date of the first graduating cIass, down to the present time. The names of athletes foreach year and the record of games won and Iost were hound in a ledger that can he viewed for future information and enjoyment.
