Bill Walters scores Sweetwater's lone tally of the Helix game on an end sweep. Capture Third CHULA VISTA vs SWEETWATER On Nov. ll, the Spartan Field was the site of the traditional rivalry between the Chula Vista Spartans and the Red Devils of Sweet- water, The Diablos lost to the powerful Chula Vista squad, 46 to l5. The Diablos played fine football in the first half and held the Spartans to a small 7 to O lead. ln the third quarter, Chula Vista broke loose with 26 points to lead 33 to O before quarterback Bob Jordan pitched the Red Devils' first score into the hands of Ruben Dominquez, late in the period. ln the fourth period, Jordan again passed for a touchdown, this time to end Jim Gibbs, and Don Gentry added the conversion. With a Sweetwater safety, the score then read 33 to l5. Chula Vista went on to score twice in the fourth quarter and defeat the Red Devils, 46 to l5. EL CAJON vs SWEETWATER Sweetwater's Varsity football squad ended their i955 season on November l8, by clinch- ing third place in the Metro League with a sparkling 26 to l4 win over the El Cajon Braves on the Helix gridiron. Halfback Ruben Dominquez was the first to score when he plunged over in the first quarter to give the Red Devils an early lead. ln the second period, George McElvain went over from the two and Carl Hays scored the extra point on a line plunge to give the Diablos a l3 to 7 lead over the Braves at half time. On an early play in the third quarter, McElvain scored again, this time through the middle for Sl yards. Bill Walters ran over the extra point to put the Devils out in front, 20 to 7. The Braves scored again, only to be completely set back when McElvain turned in the play of the game with an 89 yard drive off tackle in the fourth period. The final score gave Sweetwater a 26 to I4 victory over EI Cajon. I Sweetwater Red Devils sing their school hymn after defeating El Cajon.

Battle League Foes HELIX GAME On October 28, the Red Devils met the Helix Highlanders on the Chula Vista field and lost a tough one, l9 to 7. Bill Walters opened the scoring of the eve- ning by going around end for a 43 yard touch- down run. Don Gentry then added the con- version and at the half the Diablos led 7 to O. Helix came back to score twice in the third quarter and once again in the final period to finish out the scoring, i9 to 7. The Red Devils rolled up I94 yards rushing in the first two periods alone, but did not take advantage of their scoring opportunities. FULLERTON vs SWEETWATER On Saturday, November 5, the Red Devils traveled north to Fullerton High School only to be set back by the Indians, 29 to 7. Capitalizing on Sweetwater's early fumbles and mistakes, the lndians led 22 to O at the half. ln the third quarter, Sweetwater had its one moment of glory when Bill Walters made a 65 yard touchdown run around his own left end, with Don Gentry adding the extra point. Fullerton scored again in the fourth quarter and the final score read Fullerton 29, Sweet- water 7. ee Af it is ,. A, George McElvain drives for a large gain against Helix.
