The championship was won in spectacular fashion with the Bulldogs going undefeated and untied throughout the entire season. After 13 wins and no losses the championship was theirs. The fans and supporters were treated with an outstanding offense and defense. The Bulldogs scored 488 points while only allowing 108. Scoring on the average of 37.5 points per game, the offense was very explosive and scored almost at will. Giving up only 8.3 points per game, the defense proved too tough for the oppone nts to handle. It was this type of balance that helped make the Bulldogs successful, During the year, the Bulldogs ran up a total of 235 first downs, while their opponents could only manage 137. Several times during the season an opponent could not record a single first down in the entire first half. All in all the Bulldogs amassed a total of 4,887 yards for the season while their opponents were held to a mere 2,348 The season ended with Sweet Water defeating previously undefeated West Jefferson 34-O. Many writers -throughout the state believe that this Bulldog team could possibly have been one of the best class 1-A teams ever assembled. . The season is over and the championship won, but the memories of their glorious victory will last forever. This baseball championship gives the Bulldogs double championships for the 1978-79 school year with Sweet Water winning the football crown earlier this year. Coach Victor Scott's club records 17 wins against 1 loss. The Bulldogs, who were barely eliminated from the playoffs last year A by Millry, got revenge this year by beating that same school in two out of three games for the Area Championship. The Sweet Water team then proceeded to win all six playoff games with no defeats for the State Crown. With a well-rounded pitching, hitting, defense, and base- running team, the Bulldogs gave their fans a marvelous championship and many wonderful memories. CONGRATULATIONS ONCE AGAIN, BULLDOGS!!!
