A Camping We Will Go . . . Each year high school juniors senior act as camp counselors for 6th graders at their annual Outdoor Education Camp. Counselors are selected by signing up being interviewed by the elementary teachers. Camp lasts five days hs stu- dents must miss school, but not their school work. They still have to make up any work that they miss. Too bad guys. Maybe better luck next time. (t-r, l-b) Todd Sturt, Kirk Jewell, Todd Yunker, Chris Hayes. I guess Hayes believes in woman's lib, letting Skiver Moore do the paddling. Wei- gel helping out the youngsters. Why such a painful expression Sturt?

Spanish Club (l) Amy Phgemjn, Chris Clark, Vince Husled, Amy Bruno, Amy Queen, Stephanie Wenig (m) Kelly Wood, Amy Howard, Kristine Brin- dle, Karen Crockett, Laurel Degood (b) Wendy Fisher, Advisor — Mr. Angel Campesino, Becky Bartling. The Spanish Club is open to members in Spanish Class. Monthly meetings are held. For Christmas, the club holds a Spanish Christmas dinner. This year, in conjuction with the French Club, a Valentine's Day Dance was held. The Spanish Club participates each year at the TU for- eign language day. Students also went to BGSU to compete. 7 Quiz Team (t-b-r) Advisor — Ms. Sona Eppenstein, Dagne Krout, Jared Doren, Becky Nagy, Elizabeth Whitmore, Phyllis Ciardini, Jon Whitmore, Andrew Nelson. Swanton Quiz Team defeated Conti- nental on Channel 13 High School Quiz. Their next opponent was St. Johns were defeated 410 390 (by 1 question). In the Defiance Academic Challenge, Swanton placed 3rd among 16 selected area hs. Swanton for the 9th time competed in the Na- tional Computer Quiz Bowl placed 825 1182. In Ohio, Swanton was 52 62. By enrollment Swanton was 148 254. Swanton placed 4 15 in To- ledo Area Quiz league, 25 yrs. of membership, with 8 wins 6 loses. 14

Leaders Take To The WoodsI Student Government held its Second Annual Retreat in the fall of '87. During the three days spent at Camp Michael in Bucyrus, OH, members learned new skills in communication, leadership techniques, group dynamics, self- awareness. Campers were responsible for meals. Each grade selected a particular meal were responsible for all stages of the meal including planning, prepara- tion, dean-up. During the week-end campers were invovled in activities that requried to show how innovative cre- ative they could be. Leaders also prac- ticed Fair Games that were included in Homecoming.
