SENIOR GRIDDERS EARN HIGH HONORS The 1980 edition of the Swonron vorsity foorboll reom fulfilled Coach David Honsbarger’s pre-season expectations greatly by comiling a 6-0-1 record. Seven seniors received honors in the NWOAL while Jeff Carter wos 1st reom league quarterback ond defensive bock, 1st reom district and 2nd ream ALL-OHIO. Receiving second reom oil league were Steve Upp, Horry Baldwin, Pot Royford, David Corson, Val Worts, ond Jerry Hozlett. 10 12 13 MARCHING BULLDOGS MAKE DEBUT AT STATE The 19B3-84 Swonron Morching Bulldogs hod on excellent seoson. This is the first yeor rhe bond received o superior (I) roting or District Bond Contest and went on to Store Bond Contest to receive on excellent (II) roting. Contest selections were Here's That Rainy Day, Flashdonce,” and Sing, Sing, Sing.'' Other songs performed during the seoson included such hits os Beat If, Billie Jeon, Hard to Soy I'm Sorry, Land of o Thousand Donees, and You Are. At the concert of rhe end of the seoson, rhe bond members chose Trudy Herr os senior marcher and Michelle Coin os freshman marcher. 14 STUDENTS GET BACK TO THE BASICS In rhe foil. Twelve juniors ond seniors venrured inro rhe wilderness for one week to be comp counselors or Comp Polmer. Counselors Don Culler. Leo Honley. Sue Meyer, Woyne Miller. Undo Novak, Lynne Novak. Lori Franklin. Greg Good. Senior Jim Boehm and sophomore Robert Miller both hod outstanding seasons. Doehm qualified for District competition, while Miller went on ro earn All-Ohio honors placing tenth in individual competi- tion or the Store meet in Columbus. 27 STORY THEATER — A MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE The foil ploy wos o bir different from SHS's post productions. Story Theater, a dinner production, wos o series of fairy tales that contained morals along with others purely for entertainment. An acting troupe (nomes optional) was cost, individuals rook several roles each and magic hap- pened! Such fovorires os Henny Penny, the Fisherman and His Wife, ond the Golden Goose enchanted the audiences plus gave the acting troupe ond director. J.J.S.. a truly memorable experience. Bond president Trudy Herr won the Senior Bond Scholor ond John Philip Souso A word 56 picnic SHS ENJOYS A PICNIC IN FEBRUARY On Februory 25 and 26, Swanton was in- vited to o Picnic.” This Picnic,” however, was the result of weeks of hard work and this team of talented actors and on ex- perienced director, J.J.S., coached the cost of Picnic” into two unforgettable perfor- mances. The production centered around Mage Owens, ployed by Cathy Fodero ond her problem. She wos supposed to be in love with Seon Seymour portrayed by Greg Hall, bur she wasn't too sure. When Hal Cortes, ployed by Tom Burch, come on- to the scene ond started working for slight- ly confused Helen Potts (Kathy Rogless) Modge found herself straying from the porh which wos clearly paved by her mother, Flo Owens, created by Amy Dunn. The story hod o subplot involving on old moid schoolteacher (Angie Meller) ond Howard Bevins, Mott Taylor. Rosemary is sure that she has finally decided that Howard is the man of her dreams ond is ready to tie the knot but Howard isn't so sure that the whole idea isn't o nightmare! The other cost members helped odd character ond comedy to the show. It wos o remarkable performance oil around. 60 BAND VISITS THE SUNSHINE STATE ON SPRING BREAK Both rhe morching ond concert bonds heoded south over spring breok to Orlondo. Florido to roke port in rhe Festivals of Music Notional Com- petition April 23 through April 30. The bond was able to practice ot rhe Goror Bowl, which seats over 60,000 ot rhe University of Florido in Goinsville. The group of 70 students ond 13 chaperons visited Epcor Center, Seo World, Polynesian Villoge, ond Wet ond Wild, o woter amusement pork The morching Bulldogs were chosen, by oudirion. to lead rhe Electric Porode down Main Street, U.S.A. The concert bond placed second in it's class ond fifth out of 25 bonds. The morching bond placed second in it's closs ond overall while Rick Lee received o first place oword for being best drum major. 62 64 SH5 STUDENTS HONORED AT PROGRAM The Fourrh Annual Honors Program was held May 18 in rhe auditorium. Over 200 students were nominated in 71 different categories, with teachers and members of rhe community handing out rhe awards. 70 2)iamonJmen Capture flWOJiJ! Experience was the key factor for the 1983-84 Bulldog diomondmen. It was the some squad that captured the subur- ban league crown during the summer. The thirteen man ream, eight of which were senior, won the NWOAL title for the second year in o row. 74 “Artwork in Progress’’ wos this year’s rheme for the May 19 art festival sponsored by the SHS art club. Held on the lown outside of the school, the festivol offered o variety of entertainment with break dancing, jozzercise, and bond members ploying their instruments. Artwork on display, various demonstrations, along with food and refreshments were also o port of the festival. 77 - .JIL . V •% ' ' J.y ; ‘ ft The Junior-Senior prom was different from those held in the post. For the first rime in many years the spring highlight for the year was held or the high school. The cafeteria, decorated in shades of blue ond silver matched the rheme of ’Wish Upon o Star. The 1964 prom court consisted of Queen Cothy Kurrh, King Jim Boehm, Cothy Fodero, David Corson, Becky Miller, ond Steve Upp. Tom's Sound System provided music for the couples from 9:001:00. Afterwords it was off to Sourhwyck Bowling Lanes where students enjoyed ploying cords, pool, ond bowling. 64 e 89 Only me WittOett jor Seniors ONLY TIME WILL TELL FOR SENIORS Commencemenr exercises for the Closs of 1984 were held on Sunday. June 10 or two o'clock in the afternoon or the athletic field Over 145 graduating seniors olong with their friends and families listened to guest speakers James Pease of Penro, superintendent John Syx. ond principol Roy Vivian Invocation wos given by Robyn Dodson ond the closs president Lindo Novok gave the welcoming address Solutotorion Mory Snyder and Valedic- torian Lori Dowmon also spoke to the graduates. 90 Special music wos provided by the chorus ond bond. 91 TORONTO TOPS OFT YEAR FOR SENIORS On June 1-4, rwenry-rwo seniors traveled ro Toronto, Ontario for their doss trip. While staying ot the Corlron Inn, they visited the CN Tower, Canada's Wonderland, Coso Lomo, Eaton Centre, ond the Ontario Science Center. Seniors also enjoyed see- ing Guys ond Dolls, the Toronto Blue Joys in action, ond the Second City Comedy Cabaret. Meals included dining or Lord Stanley's Feast and the Organ Grinder Restaurant.
