Follow- ing the presentation, Teri was crowned by co-captains of the football team, Tom Snyder and Bob Stinson. ,Jim is .Q Victory was the prevailing thought among the homecomers which packed Swantonls home stands. The Bulldogs did not disappoint them as they fought their way to a 38-0 score over the Bobcats from Green Springs. This score was made possible by the touch- downs of Bob Stinson, Pat McClure, and Tom Snyder. Possibly this game showed, more than any other, what the Bulldog defense could do. A fanfare of trumpets broke the lull that awaited the half time show. The bank played Spanish numbers and formed an arena. In the center of the arena Alvin Cavanaugh fought Toro, the bull. The excitement and gore of the bullfight was watched with enthu- siasm by the homecoming crowd. Golden Autumn was the theme of the Homecoming dance. The couples danced in a brown and gold atmosphere to the music of the Metrotones. Queen Teri Flynn and her attendants reigned over the Student Council sponsored event. 105 ,., X-M., b .awp WE SHOOK THE FAMILY TREE .V 3.- f, ,I 4 r,,w,.x rf- Q .r K Sfarringf Richard Born Kafhy Kahle Mary Sadowski Byron Bowman , , ,.,,,.A .,.-u ,if 108 .wif wg' Q A First Row: Nancy Langenderfer, Pat Rayford, Kathy Hudson, Pat Cramer, Jana Sloan, Teri Anderson, Linda Barnes, Pat Snyder, Frannell Pilliod, Marilyn Hoffman, Pat Ben- ner, Nancy Cramer, Gail Dennis, Diane Bixler, Sue Vaughn, Mary Zimmerman, Dorothy Kirkum, Sue Loch, Joyce Young, Joy Baus, Pat Wilson, Sofia Alfaro, Linda Bowers, Elaine Lumbrezer, Sue Trickey, and Jeannie Snyderg Second Row: Kathy Moore, Barbara Howard, Elaine Knight, Rita Morlock, Sue Osgerby, Joyce Langenderfer, Becky Bowman, Linda Woods, Joyce Murray, Rosel Schunemann, Mrs. Sloan, Mrs. Galloway, Mrs. Lam- mon, Mr. Galloway, Mr. Bonam, Mr. Daniels, TeresaSchmidt, Rori Mason, Mary Leichty, Teri Flynn, Debbie Burns, Pam Wymer, Barbara Pixley, Peggy Champion, Christine Topel, Cassandra Hensley, and Cleone Greene, Third Row: Mike Galloway, Tom Morton, Bill Bowser, Ray Walter, Jeff Sharples, Dick Coder, John Butler, Mike Hallett, Tom Snyder, Doug Schmitz, Alan Minnick, Richard Ziegler, Ross Thompson, Don Millenbaugh, Leroy Wallace, Richard l-lenninger, Paul Merriweather, Jim Bowser, Doyle Drennan, Marcus Mikola, Dave Sharples, Hugh Griesinger, Terry Yeager, Alan Meyers, Mike Campbell, Mike Yantiss, Mark Bailey, and Mike Galloway, Fourth Row: Richard Souslin, Matt McQuade, Richard Kujawski, Dave Kroll, Karl Kurth, Don Slawinski, Brad Osterhout, Richard Wilbourne, Bob Noe, John Purdy, Bob Stinson, Phil Witker, Larry Griggs, and Rick Parkins. Runnels came to Swanton as principal of the high school in 1943. In 1951 upon the retirement of L. A. Walker, he was named super- intendent and has guided the Swanton Schools through re- markable changes. Our student population in- crease has required several building programs which Mr. Runnels has directed. In 1952, the new high school was com- pleted, in 1956, the new gym- nasium, 1958, the music area and cafeteria addition, and 1962, Park Elementary School. A most outstanding charac- teristic besides being a fine teacher and coach, is his will- ingness to sacrifice his time, energy, and abilities for our school. Mr. Runnels and his wife Mary, will take up residence on the island of Sanibel in the Gulf of Mexico, afew miles fromthe western coast of Florida. He leaves with us the at- tributes which he himself en- genders: an insistence upon the highest standards of perform- ance, a high regard for justice and charity, and the patience which makes all goals attainable. With deep respect and grat- itude, we dedicate this annual to Mr. Runnels and extend our best wishes to him and his wife.
