Class History History is a systematic and exact account of events, even from their very beginnings. Now, it would be impossible to relate all that this illus- trious Class of ’53 has done but we shall try to tell you of the most im- portant happenings of our four years here at Sutton High School. We began as a class of thirty-seven and although large in number, we appeared small in comparison with the upperclassmen. We were de- termined to show them differently and--we have. We should like to have them back here today to see the change of character of that Freshman raw material, compared to the finished product that is here today. The class elected Raymond Smith as President; Sylvia Desjourdy, Vice-President; Marilyn Swart, Secretary; and Hazel Whittier, Treasurer. The greater part of that first year was spent in getting acquainted with the other classes. A few of us ventured to take part in the sports S. H. S. had to offer. The social life of the school appealed to many of us and we always were willing to attend the school functions, and at the Valen- tine Ball, presented by the Senior Class, our classmate, Marcia Bjork, was crowned Queen of the Ball. As Sophomores we were fortunate to enter the new Sutton Memorial School having Miss Anne L. Beechler as our class advisor and homeroom teacher, who we could look to for guidance and assistance. Class officers were once again elected. Sylvia Desjourdy, President; Stanley Piatczyc, Vice-President; Gale Johnson, Secretary; and Germaine Elie, Treasurer. We continued to take an active part in school athletics and the social life. In September, 1951, knowing that one half of our high school course had been completed we returned as Juniors feeling that we had a year of 16
