The annual Sutton Hi Homecoming Celebration, under the sponsor- ship of the Junior class, was held October 16, 1953. The celebration be- gan the night before with a thuse meeting featuring the annual burning of Big Joe. 'Big Joe Belington was set on fire and thrown off the bridge, with the Traveling Band furnishing the background music ----- DRAGNET ----- The big day got underway with a parade in which school and civic organizations competed for float prizes. The Juniors rated first place, the Freshmen second, and the Seniors third. The Blue Devils bowed the Belington Hi Hawks, 13-19, in an ex- citing game that afternoon. The royal court was presented at halftime and Queen Marjorie was crowned. What had been a beautiful, warm, sunny day came toa close that evening with the last strains of the Town Orchestra from the Queen's Ballroom. 1953 Blue Devil Football Squad m

aackvz- aumpwm 'UW sw The 1953 Prom, sponsored by the Junior Class, was one of the gala events of that year. Those attending danced to the music of Ned Gutherie and his orchestra from Charleston. The theme was Stardust Serenade and the ballroom was decorated in graduated shades of blue, with silver stars. The guests of honor were the Senior class. The evening was one to be long remembered. 59
