Sutton was down in basketball this year as 8 lettermen were lost--seven through graduation and one by transferring. In the seven lost by graduation five were the regulars. The returning lettermen were John McLaughlin, guard, and David Garee, center. The coach is re-build- ing the team this year by giving experience to freshmen, sophomore, and junior boys. For the first time in many years Sutton has a B team and also a freshman team. The B team is small and lacks experience butwhen the season is over they will be prepared for the varsity next season. The fresh- man team has several good boys and with the experience they will get this year, the varsity will have good material for the next few years. Sutton lost 8 games while winning 12 last year. The record this year is 4 wins and 16 losses. Sutton started slow this year but at the end of the season with much experience they have improved greatly. One of their best games was played with Sand Fork which Sutton won in an overtime. Earlier this season Sand Fork beat Sutton 37 points. The games with Normantown and Cowen showed the improvement in Sutton although Sut- ton lost to both teams. When Normantown played at Sutton, we were badly defeated. Over at Normantown Sutton was defeated by 10 points, while Cowen beat us 12 points. In the Region IV, Section 16 Tournament, Belington pulled ahead after a l point halftime lead to beat Sutton. 53
