The Sutton Chapter of the National Honor Society is an organization which gives recognition to outstand- ing students on the basis of scholarship, leadership, service, and character as shown in the school. The chief project for this yearis to have a recognition banquet in the Spring for those students earning high honor points during the year on various activities. The Student Council is an organization of students working together with their sponsors suggesting ideas for the improvement of our school. Our greatest task as a project was the organization of the Intramural Basketball Conference, under the leadership of Mr. Roy J. Brosius. Other projects undertaken by the council during the year were: collecting toys for needy children at Christmas, social calendar, recreation rooms and study hall at noon hour. Delegates were sent to the North Central District meeting at Lost Creek, to gain more information and suggestions to better the council. Jolm McLaughlin, president of our council and also serving as president of the district, presided over this meeting. Other officers of the council are: Randall Greene, Vice President, Marjorie Robinson, Secretary: Sue Moore, Treasurer, with Mr. Roy J. Brosius and Mrs. John Thomas Jr. as sponsors. 34-

Future Homemakers of America is a private, non-profit organization, incorporated under the laws of the District of Columbia. It co-operates with the office of Education, Federal Security Agency, and the Ameri- can Home Economics Association, in promoting home economics study and instructions, and all phases of homemaking activities, in private, public, and secondary schools. This organization was founded in June 1945 under a provisional constitution, but the national constitution was not ratified until July 9, 1948. The West Virginia Association Future Homemakers was the 13th state to be granted a charter, and at this time the Sutton Chapter was affiliated. The flower is the red rose, the colors red and white, and the motto--- Toward New Horizons, which proves that this organization is always working for the best.
