1 NO WAY TO START THE YEAR July 31, 1982 will long be remembered at Susquehan- nock High School. A fire broke out somewhere in the guidance area. An alarm was sounded at 6:00 a.m. and area fire companies re- sponded. Nearly five hours later, the blaze was under control. The cleanup that was to follow was a monumental task. As often is the case in the face of tragedy, people worked together to get the school ready to open on time. WORKING TOGETHER TO BE OURSELVES r 5 A MAN FOR ALL SEASONS For the past 23 years, Mr. Donald Blough has been an institution at Susquehannock High School. He has touched many of our lives as a teacher, a coach, and as a friend. In the Social Studies classroom, he taught us how to use the voting machine and how to better understand our world. On the athletic field, he taught us how to dedicate ourselves and play fair. Finally, as a friend, he showed all of us that a smile and friendly word are all that's needed to make a day. The 1983 Calumet Yearbook Staff speaks for everyone at Susquehannock when it says, Thank You, Mr. Blough! Thank You for being a teacher, coach, and friend. But, most of all. Thank You for being you! It's an honor we've been looking forward to for twelve long years. Some of us are looking to the future and welcome its challenges, some of us are in for a rude awakening, and those others are not sure where we are headed at all. Through our senior year we have been given opportunities to express our individuality, each in a different way. Let's hope that years from now, we can look back and say we took advantage of those opportunities. Of course it is a higher rank, but what about the numerous responsibilities. Even before the Junior Year is completed, the to be seniors are bur- dened with the thought of having their senior pictures taken. Then when they return to school, the college hunt begins. It seems that every college is right for you! Pressure builds as the early enrollment date approaches; money becomes a BIG factor. There are applica- tion fees and SAT test fees. The yearbook sales begin. Graduation announcement money is due, along with a cap and gown rental fee, and the Busch Gardens Class Trip downpayment About this time, a question arises concern- ing the JR-SR Prom. Oh, what a wonderful idea, but who has the money by now for gowns, tuxedos, dinner and admission tickets (about $50), and a corsage to top it off? Besides all of these little financial setbacks there are term paper typing fees! Isn't the senior year suppose to be the best of all school years? Well perhaps it is, but aren't the best things in life supposed to be free?!
