There are schedules to arrange, new students to enroll, standards to set. and decisions to make which affect us all. Mr. Linnane (top left) our principal, oversees the total school operation, seeing that we arc offered the best education possible. Mr. Baker (bottom left) our assistant principal, assists Mr. Linnane. Even though his job keeps him busy, he finds time for the little things which make our day more pleasant. The new gym banners for example, were his concept. As guidance counselors, Mr. Beily and Mr. Ehrhart guide our career decisions, supervise testing and provide a sounding block for problems when we need it. 19 MAKING IT HAPPEN Every fall we begin a new school year. We come expecting to learn new and interesting things about our world. Our teachers are always there to make it happen. I FUN AND INSTRUCTION 34 35 JUST BEGINNING As freshmen, our minds were filled with apprehension and anxiety. How were we to know that some staircases were up” only? . . . and surely someone must have hidden Room 122 from us . . . not to mention the way our knees buckled as soon as an upperclassman looked at us. But, as the year progressed, we became more confident in ourselves. We knew what was expected by our superiors, and we strove to please them. We made many new- friends and our class began to grow as a unit. Bach of us had started in his own separate way, but we knew that we would close the year together. row l G Gilbert. M. Falcone. R. We were given more responsibility and we tried our best to shoulder it well. This was to be a terrific year. Our lockers were actually on the second floor, our jackets arrived, and finally our own shiny school ring. Graduation was two long years away but already we were hearing about credit requirements to receive our diplomas. Problems arose, big and small, but the decisions we made allowed us to take a step closer to June 1982. lower right: Pam Bricker enjoys her Thursday class with Miss Goss. 45 47 row l: (i Kipple row 2 T Kennedy. Our class experienced many trials, but they seemed only to bring us closer together. Our hall was always filled with laughter, creating memories to look back upon. Throughout the year we made many decisions; the Homecoming float and hall, choosing the right senior prom theme, and selecting senior proofs were just a few. As the end of the year grew near, anxieties concerning our senior year began to surface. But whatever may occur, we shall face it together. 53 row 1: A Endres. M Eckles row 2: A Norck, C. King, S. Coach Alwinc and Coach Margclot, helped achieve a new philosophy of offense, consistent moving of the ball, and greatly improved defensive play. Forced to open with four road contests made no difference to the fans. Despite foul weather, our spirit boosters rooted, cheered, and kept their faith. With continued improvements, Susquehannock shall see a better team emerge. bottom teri The Warriors arc fired up as they come onto the field. bottom right: The play begins at the line of scrimmage. 58 first row Mgr. With the aid of seven returning lettermen and under the direction of Coach Stauffer, the girls battled their way to Districts where they suffered a disheartening loss to Penn Manor During the final week of competition, endurance was grandly displayed as four games were played. Susquehannock has always been proud of our girls, and this year was no exception. Since the entire team belongs to the home Bon Air course, unofficial putting is done all summer long. Whether you play an instrument, carry a flag, or twirl a baton, you’re considered an individual with special talents — especially those used in a parade or on a football field. Classes are given a chance to begin anew, to work together, and to combine thoughts and actions toward the common goal of victory. During Spirit Week, a transformation was made and everything from farmers to formals could be seen roaming the halls. Sleepless nights and hours of frustration were washed away as hall winners were announced at the pep rally. Happy smiles and even tears of joy were seen on senior faces — for they had won for the first time. Despite the muddy weather, countless turned out to watch our players in a come-from-behind win over the Spartans, to enjoy the half-time festivities of our Marching Warriors, and to view the floats, sidelined due to conditions. The class of '80 was ecstatic when their float took first place for the fourth year in a row — a new record in our school. More spirit and pride was generated than in previous years, making this the best Homecoming ever. K Ellioc BEYOND BOUNDRIES AFS is students, families, and volunteers working together for a better understanding of world and state cultures. Susquehannocks' unique program has been cited as being one of the best in this area. The club does not consist of individuals but operates as a unit. Various fund raisers arc held throughout the year to support the program. Everything from detergents and stationery to a turkey dinner provides the necessary finances for the exchange of students. As the international AFS President says, We have ventured beyond our immediate boundaries to look at ourselves and the future; we have pulled together to share our knowledge and resources in order to make the world a better place in which to live.” id. As spirits were beginning to dim, a hard-fought game against the Fighting Irish seemed to turn the season around. Eastern was then handed a defeat, which was followed by two thrilling games against Dallastown and Red Lion where the Warriors lost in the final seconds. Each member contributed in some way and we can be very proud of them. The JV team played many successful games and should provide exciting moments for spectators next year. 92 VARSITY: front row: T. It has truly been a year of new beginnings at Susquehannock, especially in the sports department. Both a track team and a boys volleyball team became reality under the direction of Mr. Alwine, Mr. Sparmblack, and Miss Adams, respectively. With the renewal of spring, boys and girls began running, jumping hurdles, and throwing the javelin in preparation for exhibition meets. Their participation proved to be successful, particularly the girls, as they raced to win. The season was highlighted by the school’s acceptance into the YCIAA varsity track leagues for 1981. A coaching change proved to be beneficial as Miss Adams found a boys’ team composed of sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Long hours of practice combined with determination and strength, enabled the team to compete in two tournaments. Both of these new teams will help establish Susquehannock among other schools and in the community. We are now embarking on a new lifestyle where we must accept and learn to conquer the obstacles blocking our pathway. Our sheltered life will be no We, the class of 1980, have come so far together and each of us has the ability to contribute to society in a personal way. Who could imagine that in first grade we would form lasting friendships, but also, reaching out and meeting new people each year thereafter? Our days of hop-scotch and tag are over only to be filled with the needs and pleasures of our current age. Each of us shall look back and remember Susquehannock in a different way. Hopefully, we shall be satisfied with our accomplishments; not regretting the way things could have been. Our days and years are filled with many memories which we store in our hearts to be taken out and examined in the same way one might view a delicate flower. A single thought or a picture brings a smile to your face as you remember the way we were. We truly do bear the torch which lights the future.
