Science Experiments, test tubes and chemicals are the components of the science depart- ment. Under the direction of Mr. Stermer, Mr. Wagner, and Mr. Zeilman, students learn to conduct experiments, handle chemicals, and study the aspects of the physical world. Chemistry, biology, and physics are the three courses offered to senior high stu- dents. There are general science classes for the junior high classes. Mr. Curtis Stermer, Mr. Melvin Wagner, and Mr. Melvin Zeilman. Foreign Languages Latin, French, and Spanish are the foreign languages which are offered. A student who takes one of these languages increases his understand- ing of the ways and customs of the people around him. In the eighth grade students are offered a chance to decide which language they like by taking a Gen- eral Language Course. Each lan- guage is taught for a period of nine weeks. Home Economics Both Junior and Senior high students are instructed in the fundamental princi- ples of homemaking. Under the guidance of the Home Eco- nomics' teachers, students are shown the proper methods to acquire skill in cook- ing, sewing, and managing the home. Beginning with a simple apron, they master the skill of sewing until they have completed a dress. In cooking they learn to make everything from a biscuit to a full course meal. Modern appliances are available to all Home Ec. classes. These experiences prepare the students as future homemakers. Nurse Safeguarding the health of the stu- dents is the aim of nurses, Mrs. Margaret Anderson and Mrs. Loretta Rappolt. In the grades seven, nine, and eleven, phys- ical examinations are conducted by Dr. Remley with the assistance of the nurses. Hearing and vision tests are given also. Mrs. Anderson is available to any stu- dent who needs medical attention. Mrs, Teresa Black and Mrs. Henrietta Wilt. Nurse-Mrs. Margaret Anderson. I I M

In the shop they work on projects of wood, metal, and plastic. The boys also learn mechanical drawing and lettering. Boys taking the Agriculture Course grow crops and work with farm machin- ery. They also study science and other subjects dealing with agriculture. Mr. Russell Hare and Mr. Lowell Wallace Walter Fourhman, Robert Hildebrand, and Aaron Amspacher repair the cornplanter.
