SABER TALES — ENTERTAINMENT ORCHESTRA P. 21 FIDDLE-FADDLE This year the SV Senior High Orchestra, under the direction of Mrs. Kay Nemire. participated in four concerts. Working towards yet another A rating in NYSSMA competition, the or- chestra rehearses on ACE days, Mods 13 and 14. SV is fortunate to have an ongoing string program at all levels. Through parental, stu- dent and administrative sup- port. the program has continued strong since the school began. “Being in orchestra has enabled and prepared me to participate in other musical organizations outside of school, says Junior Jan Naugle. The benefits of our music programs extend much farther than the walls of SVHS. Individal members also represented SV at Area-All-State and the NYSSMA solo competi- tions. further demonstrating the high level of musicianship pre- sent in this organization. P. 22 Entertainment Chorus — Saber Tales The Hills Are Alive with the Sound of Music The Susquehanna Valley Senior High Chorus, a 36 member strong group, performed well this past 1983-84 season Under the careful and fine supervi sion of Choral Director Pat White, the group par- ticipated m many events from concerts during the holiday seasons to organized competitions of NYSSMA (New York State School Music Associa- tion). The Chorus sang different types of music pieces, ranging from contemporary and Broadway hits to choral classics. The total number of hours spent in preparation for the Fall. Christmas. Pops. Arts and Festival Con- certs were beneficial and reflected the Choir's abilities In April, some of the Chorus members par- ticipated m a NYSSMA competition at Chenango Forks This allowed the singers to demonstrate their vocal abilities and receive a grade accordingly In May. the entire choir competed against other choirs in an ensemble NYSSMA competition However, it wasn't continual work and no play During the Christmas season, the Chorus went caroling around downtown Binghamton in front of the Court House After, the field trip continued at nursing homes, hospitals and the Binghamton Psychiatric Center It was both a learning ex- perience as well as a lot of fun In May. the Senior members of the Choir were honored with a New York City trip, a welcomed reward by the Seniors In the future. Miss White hopes to introduce more field trips for the Choir, both educational as well as recreational.
