Nationally he has seen nine presidents, from Hoover to Ford, World War II, and Watergate. He has seen war heroes, film heroes, andrsports heroes. He has seen Amer- ica from all angles, but what he has seen most is the youth. From Dorsey to Presley to Chicago and from soda shops to rock concerts he has watched them change. At school he has seen fifty graduating classes, eleven principals, and countless teachers as they strived to reach their goals. He has been honored with innumerable championships and awards earned by Sunset students and he has been proud to see Sunset grow in spirit, knowledge, and friendship. Now let us take A Look At The Past Years . . . I9

In the next decade it saw everything in dance from the Charleston to the Shimmy and in music symphonic jazz took hold. Mary Pickford and Rudolf Valentino captured the screen while Little Orphan Annie and Dick Tracy dominated the comic books. In sports it was Babe Ruth and Jack Dempsey and in cops and robbers J. Edgar Hoover combatted Bonnie and Clyde. Before the decade was out the Great Depression had hit and all America saw hard times. In these times of such contrasts and hardships, Will Rogers was still able to say he never met a man he did not like. In Dallas N. R. Crozier and L. V. Stockard led the school administration while Sunset was led by J. A. Wilson and W. T. White with the help of the P.T.A., Dad's Club, and a sixty-six member fac- ulty. As a growing school, Sunset had eighteen clubs including the Hi-Y, the Spanish, French, and Latin Clubs, and the A.Z., S.S.S., and W.W.W. Clubs. In sports, the football team won the city champi- onship in 1927 and 1934. Besides football, the boys competed in basketball, baseball, track, tennis, and golf. Girls were offered volleyball, hiking, swim- ming, and tennikoit. Sunset brought home other honors in these early years when the Stampede, then a miniature maga- zine, received first in state, and the Rifle Team won three city titles. In the newly created Hall of Fame Ross L. Bush received recognition for his national record in the 880. As 1934-35 closed the decade Sunset had already gained a foothold to the future. 21
