As college counselor, Annie is often responsible for greater than five hundred students, for too many, one might think, for the mixture of individual attention and personal interest expected from the ideal counselor. Yet Miss McFarlin possesses a unique combination of thoughtfulness, warmth, and perseverance that makes her, not only a counselor, but a friend to each of the many entrusted to her guidance. Her bright smile, shining eyes, warm and hearty lough, and ob- vious love of life have marked Miss McFarlin as a genuine favorite of students, teachers and adminis- trators alike. In her honor and in recognition of the unselfishness and dedication that have marked her life, we of the Helios staff wish to dedicate this book to Miss Anna Lou McFarlin. It sug- gests a number of ottributes — maturity, clarity, quality, and the culmination of the efforts of many in the form of a superior product. There are many evidences to support parallels here. Aging Is one thing but maturing Is quite another ■ — the latter may not necessarily follow the former. There are numerous signs of maturity of this campus — an experienced staff, developing traditions, and ever- Improving school spirit. The quality of the educational program has widespread community recognition and acceptance and we hove expressed ourselves in com- municating one with another with increased clarity. This June marks that time of year when another group moves forward to greater opportunity — our sixth graduating class. The term vintage also refers to the crop or yield of a particular vineyard or region In a particular season. We at this high school ore proud of this yield, wishing them well In all future and distant endeavors. As underclassmen, the students raised a record amount of money, broke tradition by buying round rings, and held one of the best proms ever: Owakare — A Time To Soy Good-Bye. The Seniors began this year by choosing a unique motto. Vintage ' 67 — A Very Good Year. This motto, along with a horn of plenty, was affixed to the Senior flag, often seen flying from the flagpole in the quod. The Seniors originated the great tradition of vic- tory over Fullerton h Igh School, not only in football but also in basketball. These vic- tories were not won singly by our athletic squads; The Vintage ' 67 spirit from the stands indeed spurred Sunny Hills to one of its greatest traditions. The class council, composed of oil interested Seniors, held many Town Meetings to plan the graduation party at Pickwick Recreation Center. The Senior Gift was a sign for the foot of the hill. Throughout the year, the spirit and pride of the class surged and succeeded in proving Vintage ' 67 — A Very Good Year. .fiiii id MARILYN ABELL Transfer Student 4 Lancelles 4 LUKE ACHAY Water Polo 1,2 Swimming 1 , 2 DIANE ADAMS STEPHEN M. Vivid flowers enhanced the gym and flower shop, created by the artistic talents of Robbyn Gibbs. Brightly filled pinatas of all sizes and shapes adorned the walls. The Don Beats completed the last detail, as couples danced to their romantic beat. The atmosphere grew to one of tension and excitement as the presentation of the 1967 Spring Court was announced. To achieve this goal AFS brings teenage students to Annerica for one year. While here these foreign stu- dents live with American families and attend Ameri- can high schools. The second phase of the AFS program involves the sending of American high school stu- dents abroad to spend either a summer or a full year living with foreign families and at- tending high school there. This year Sunny hiills spon- sored two foreign exchange students, Adriana Bustos and Ivor Ketilsson. Adriana was from Chile, and made her home with Robin Weeks ' fam- ily. Coming from Norway, Ivor lived with Bob Althouse ' s family. Bob Ford, AFS representa- tive from Sunny hiills, spent a summer in Wassenaor, Neth- erlands, where he lived with the ten Cafe family. It is soggy popcorn and cokes without ice, hard seats and sore bocks, and icy fingers and noses. But the players don ' t see the kick-off from four rows up. They ore on the wet grass, crouched low. They feel their hopes and responsibilities crawl over them so completely that they ore filled with anticipation. To practice for months, to eat, sleep and think football ... is this for one touchdown? One victory? Or all vic- tories? Possibly it is for one special feeling. The boys have struggled to prepare themselves for a fight. Then they fought and everything they did was good. They ached, but it felt good. They were exhausted, but they deserved to be tired. Winston Churchill once said: I con give you nothing but blood, sweat, toil, and tears. This message could have been delivered before any practice and before any gome. Football offers . . . blood, sweat, toil, and tears but it gives more.
