PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, All Greensboro Residents are interested in doing Their Utmost to make our forthcoming Sesquicentennial Celebration the Greatest ever held in This Part of The Country and since a Goodly Portion are even Now anxious to relive and recreate some of Ye Olde Customs and Fashions prevailing during our Past One Hundred and Fifty Years; NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE H. ROACH, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF GREENSBORO, in Commemoration of Our Forefathers of Yore, do Hereby Proclaim that All Members of the Male Sex residing within the Confines of Our City who are Capable of Such Manly Effort shall Refrain from Shaving from this Fateful Day and Further until the End of our Great Anniversary Celebration, May 2 through May 10. This shall also include Such Gentry as may line Without our Limitations but Who are gainfully employed Therein. SUCH HAIR-BEARING BRETHREN may effect either Ye Fulle Beard, Mutton Chops, Van Dyke, Mustache, Sideburns or any other Facial Foliage as may Tickle their Fancies, Providing that such Hirsute Appendages are of such Length and Plentiful Luxuriance as can be readily seen and recognized at Ye Distance of Eight Paces.
