DEDICATION X ,xxx 3 X l xsxllm, xy 1 X Nnneteen hundred and elghteen was an eventful year It marked the termmatnon of host1l1t1es xn World War I In thus same year a young man from Owego New York came to Summit to assume the dutxes of prlncxpal of our h1gh school Durmg the school year 1918 1919 there were 284 students Wlth eleven full t1me and fnve part t1me teachers Thxrty two students graduated from the old Wo I school bulldmg on Sprmgfleld Avenue whlch 15 now clty hall Three of the orngmal faculty are st1ll wnth us Mlss Thomas Mxss ones and Mlss Noyes Although condxtxons were d1fferent 1n those days Mr Bartholomews warm and helpful personalnty has never changed The door of the prmcnpal s offlce 15 always open so that students wxll feel free to consult wnth hlm Through h1s thxrty elght years at Summ1t Hxgh Mr Bartholomew has seen more than fxve thousand students graduate In these cxtxzens he has mstllled the apprec1at1on of good scholarshnp and hlgh 1deals In 1949 a great tr1bute was pald our prlncxpal wxth the estabhshment of the annual Albert J Bartholomew Scholarshlp to be awarded to an outstandmg member MR ALBERTJ BARTHOLOMEW of the graduatmg class w1sh1ng to further h1s formal educatlon Mr Bartholomew havmg been actxve 1n numerous organxzatlons has achleved many honors Whnle at Colgate he was elected to Phl Beta Kappa honorary fratermty He served as Presldent of the New ersey Secondary Prmcxpals Assoc1at1on 1n 1929 1930 At present Mr Bartholomew IS on the Board of Governors of the New ersey Schoolmasters Club and the rep resentatlve of the New jersey Secondary School Prm clpals on the College Entrance Exammanon Board Locally he ns Presndent of the Summxt Rotary Club Thus year Mr Bartholomew announces hrs retnre ment We are sad to hear of hns leavmg our Alma Mater yet we consxder ourselves fortunate to have spent three of the happiest and most profxtable years of our hves under h1s gundance and leadershnp Wlth grateful appreclatlon for all he has done for Summlt I-hgh School we most proudly dedlcate thus our 1956 yearbook to Albert -I Bartholomew In keepmg wnth our ded1cat1on we haxe selected as our theme the roanng twent1es the era IH whxch Mr Bartholomew came to Summxt 3 My ,L L. il 1, 5 't5Q?,Si to IN 'Y v e 1, g 4 l v,.X yy, llllllllllyltiifx ,sgllll I ' l'..
