ARROWS WIN THIRD VALLEY TROPHY The Golden Arrow has found it mark. Eleven times it has sped flaming and true—only once did the Arrow bend. And then with a flash of the Arrowsmith s able hand the Arrow again was straight, strong, nnd true. It had been bent, but not broken, and now nothing under the sun could alter its manifest course. Yes! The Golden Arrows, under their dynamic Arrowsmith. Spike Kelly, once again have crashed the exclusive gates of championship—the Wabash Valley. To sum it up: A superior Arrow team got off to a rollicking good start in their first pigskin thriller as they rolled all over the Dugger Bulldogs, sinking them 57-7. Someone miscalculated, though, in the Arrows’ second game a week later at Whiting, for the Oiler opponents managed to run off from the Kellymen with 31 to Sullivan's 7. A whole volley of bobbles on the part of Sullivan proved extremely helpful to the Oilers’ drive for victory. We immediately redeemer! ourselves in our third thriller, and we do mean thriller, nnd fought back in the last five minutes of the game to swamp Bicknell 13-7. The Arrows forged on. A shoddy victory over Bloomington in mire and rain —a dynamic running game over Garfield, profiting 20-6. a surprising but joyful upset of the Vincennes Alices, cashing in with 20 digits to Alice's goose egg—on. on—came opponents—on. on—forged the flaming Golden Arrow. Nothing, nothing could stop them. The sixth week of the mighty Kelly campaign found the impregnable Arrows, confident and better than ever, crossing the Wabash, backed by a whole passe I of fans. Robinson had backers too. but their side of the field was strangely silent all during that game that netted our Golden Arrows 45 points to the Marroons' measly 14. And still more contenders. The Arrows tightened their belts and smacked their lips over beautiful visions of that trophy that would conclude their trail of smashing fury. But it wasn't over. The Reitz encounter came next, and the Arrows, in spite of the Panthers' sudden burst of power at the beginning of the game, took care of the situation beautifully and walloped their opponents 20-7. In succession the mighty Kelly Kids polished off the Brazil Red Devils 46-13: a small Linton Miner army 48-0: and one of the most dreaded foes of the season. Clinton, which put Sullivan's bid for the Valley trophy in the bag. The Thanksgiving Day game could be called the battle of the season, for it definitely was the game that cooked Clinton's goose and crowned Sullivan king. Sullivan had come through on top, but the team ns a whole was not all that had come. seen, and conquered. Individual players had won. too. in their own way. Put 'em together you have a machine to smash Hercules. Take 'em apart you have men and real men. Harry Walters, for instance, smashed his way through all eleven games to gain for himself a coveted position on the official Indiana All-State Team. Bob Carter. Sullivan end. had blasted his way behind Harry to win a nice, juicy spot on the second team, and Jack Fisher, along with Walters and Carter, was the envy of all footballers by receiving honors on the Wabash Valley Team. Bob Clarkson also won a name on the second Valley string. SSom In Wlvrt: Ko— Ow. Cb.ec Uadm Sut H-lmnn, lUftnra Tm[ .un. M .Mre.1 U««ll n. Ann B.«h Pmk. r-o Captain Sbipman. apvrtntMi.
