DRUM AND BUGLE CORPS The Sullivan High School Girls’ Drum and Bugle Corps participated in marching maneuvers at all the home football games during the 1939 season. The members are of freshman and sophomore standing. They were organized in the sixth grade and. with few changes, have worked together since then. The Corps consists of nineteen girls: ten drummers, six buglers, two cymhal players, and one drum major. Their snappy uniforms consist of purple wool skirts with a white shirt and yellow sweater, purple neckerchiefs and hats, and white oilcloth boots. The drum major wears a yellow skirt and coat with purple trimmings, a purple and gold drum major's hat. and gold boots. At present efforts are being made to equip the Corps with winter uniforms in order that it may participate in year round activities. The letter S . for Sullivan, was neatly formed before the Sullivan fans at every home football game. Their drills on the field consisted of marching in open and closed order, counter marching, right and left quarter wheels, and company front. A special surprise stunt drill was given at a basketball game prior to Christmas vacation. Sacks of Christmas candy, pulled from their boots and thrown to the fans, climaxed that performance. Special thanks are given to Patty Bedwell and Norma Bottorff for their splendid work as student managers. Their efficiency helped Miss Bland, sponsor of the Drum Corps, in making this organization a successful marching unit. The death of Georgia Bennett, one of the original and most willing members, was a shock to the entire group. r«e Row BaatnaH .Inaaw.l I.
