1986 SAGITTA Suffield High School, Suffield, Connecticut Dedication Appreciation Graduates Faculty and Administration Underclassmen Activities Music and Theatre Spring Sports Fall Sports Winter Sports Seniors in Action Community Support i DEDICATION We dedicate the 1986 Sagitta with sincere gratitude to Mrs. Eileen Kinney, our devoted yearbook advisor. Mrs. Kinney has always done more than her share, as a teacher and as an advisor. For the past five years, she has provided the guidance, support and wisdom needed to create the ever successful Sagitta. We recognize her commitment to the Suffield High School Community and thank her with this dedication. APPRECIATION We, the class of 1986, wish to convey our deepest appreciation to our class advisors, Mr. James Gregor and Mr. Lawrence Katulka. They have supported us as a class throughout the years with much love, time, and ef¬ fort. They have shared w ith us our joys and sorrows, and guided us when we were in need of guidance. They are more than just advisors . . . they are our friends. We are now returning the love given to us by K and J. G. through this small tribute. We met when we were young and impressionable, ready to begin the transition from adolescence to adulthood. 4 Like saplings acquiring maturity, we were ready to enter the forest of life. We set goals and sprang forward into a period of growth and new found maturity. 6 Realizing these goals, we slowly grew to our potential, and our colors became brighter and stronger. As we grew we reache and found something our p a’r j co 8 9 Using the knowledge with which we became our own individual blossoms, we set out with a sense of experience, ready for the challenge of finding a new place in life. Once upon a time when we were an unruly class of eighth graders, knowing it w as high time lor a change, we journeyed across the parking lot to Suffield High School. With wide eyes we began to experience all that the high school had to offer. We looked up to the upperclassmen and waited in an¬ ticipation for the days when we, too, could drive to McDonald’s. We proudly displayed our new 1986 class jackets, around town and to Studio New York, our main source of entertainment. Here we danced to the sounds of Men at Work, Go-Gos, Rick Springfield, and Journey. Toward the end of the year, with a little experience behind us, we advanced from our freshman status and gladly accepted our new title. Chapter Two — Sophomore Year. Walking through the halls, we noticed that this year’s freshmen looked unusually young. Had we ever been so small? Our ring committee meetings kept us amused and we finally made our decisions and placed our orders. In Biology class, we dissected dead animals, with some reluctance (careful not to get frog juice on our new rings), and prayed for passing grades. Our class spirit shone through this year. We won “Deck the Halls’’ and we cheered our basketball team on with handfuls of confetti. Then came summer and, along with it, the mad dash to get our licenses. We had our first part-time jobs and learned how to be irresponsible with our new-found freedom. Chapter Three — Junior Year. Upperclassmen at last!! We enhanced our class treasury- by our candy sale. Using this money, we organized our very first prom. After much hair pulling, our theme was decided on. Mado nna started the slow dancing with “Crazy tor You. 4 This was the year we watched (with pride) as our basketball team won the state championship! After each winning game we loaded our cars and headed for Frankie’s, our favorite place to celebrate. When the celebrations died down, we became serious and prepared to take S.A.T.’s. Come June, we bid a tearful good-bye to our Senior friends, and the realization came that we were now the Seniors. We had reached the highest rung on the ladder. Chapter Four — Senior Year. After an adventurous summer, we returned to school “walking tall” with the knowledge that we were the ruling class. We started off the year by showing that we could work together by cooperating to create our 1986 Class Portrait. We filled out college applications and sent them off with crossed fingers. With prayers for acceptances in the back of our heads, we managed to forget our “senior stresses” long enough to have some serious fun. We danced up storms at our Senior Semi-formal and our prom. We sold magazines as our final senior class fund raiser and everybody proudly sported Weepies. Friendships strengthened as the date of our inevitable parting loomed ahead. Soon we were wondering where time had gone as the big moment arrived. With many memories, anticipations, fears, and dreams, we stood together as a class one last time and took that important step on graduation day. lid I .ItIt I I Addie” Adamick Yearbook 4, Madrigals 1, Ski Club 3, 4, Track 3, 4; Cross Country 4; Indoor Track 4, Project Care, AFS, Robed Choir A Can Baumert Girls Gymnastics 1, 2, 3; Concert Band l, 2, 3; Symphonic Band 4; Musical 2, 3, 4; Protect Care 2, 3, 4, Ambulance Technician 2, 3, 4; Yearbook, Asst Copy Editor 4; C.P.R. BANG ' Before the bnde can reply, an extremely loud gun shot is heard. All heads whirl around to see where the shot came from. Stan¬ ding in back holding a pistol is Marianne Luda, and beside her, Jodie Adamick. The two women are smirking and Marianne shouts, Sorry to disturb this lovely occasion, people, but 1 have some pressing business to attend to with my husband.” Pat Watters stands up from his seat and cries, “No, Mare, don’t do it! Let’s discuss this rationally — does it have anything to do with my not letting you have any cats in our mansion?” “Sorry, Pat darling, it’s too late for talk.” The guests scream in terror as Marianne raises the gun, aims it at Pat s head and slowly squeezes the trigger. Just in time, detectives Sherry ' and Diane jump on top of her and knock the gun to the ground. Sherry whips out her handcuffs, and Marianne and Jodie are led away The guests breathe sighs uf relief, and the bride, fearful of any other delays, forcefully says “1 do!” “You may kiss the bride.” A burst of applause comes from the guests, and overhead a roar is heard Pilots JAY OSOWIECKI and MICHAEL DeVRIES are Hying airplanes with messages trailing. They .read: “I Love You, Susy” and ”1 Love You, Andy.” What a day! What a reunion! What an incredible class!! Slatch Glynn J.V. U I think about that dreadful night. A friend that I had known before Had been robbed of his precious life. Gone now was his cheerful talk, voice silent as the edge of a knife, memory flies back to before that time en breath still moved within his chest. He was good, kind, and warm of heart. I J J ■ e was a friend, he was the best. Now the w ind w r histles by my ears ike a sad moan from a ghostly voice T ears start trickling in gleaming streams As I think about God s painful choice. He was much too young to go so soon; A sad event in the lives of many. Gone also are his laughing eyes That twinkled like a brand new penny. We 11 miss him greatly, this man, this friend,. And still shall miss him until the end. t IV — Michael Gray WE SHALL KEEP WITH US THE LOVE OF OUR FRIENDS fff AND THE MEMORIES OF WHERE OUR ROOTS LIE. A failing business, a scout troop, a church choir, a public school, or a city council. Plenty of struggling organizations are salvageable if they get the right kind of help. Remember: America went from its greatest naval loss (Pearl Harbor) to its greatest naval victory (Midway) in just six months. So plug up the leaks, trim the sails and get going.
