These two familiar faces could always be found at class and school activities. Their spirit has equaled that of any Senior. They have demonstrated this with their endless en¬ couragement at the Octoberfest, sporting events, and class fundraisers. Because of their magnanimous gestures and contributions to our class, we proudly dedicate the 1984 Sagitta to Judy and Vern Case. We, the class of 1984, would like to thank our class advisors, Mr. George Galiatsos and Mr. James Gregor. By allowing us to make our own mistakes, they helped us to grow as individuals and gave us their guidance when it was most needed. They have shown us the meaning of success and the hardships of failure. We express our deepest appreciation and our best wishes to them for the future. 3 How sweet the memories we have stored away within this chest... and goals we each set for ourselves, we see how young and all the memories of our hopes and dreams that constantly Those special moments lie as jewels on the velvet of our memories. 12 John Thomas Arciszewski To be great is to be understood. — Emerson Karen Ann Austin Learn to make the most of life, lose no hap¬ py day, time will nei er bring thee back chances swept away! — Sarah Doudney Maria Joyce Basdekis Every day is a fresh beginning. We brought with us the monstrous visions we had of the upperclassmen and th e fears all Freshmen have. But our fears soon diminished as we awaited the arrival of our BLUE class jackets. Proud of our jackets and displaying our class spirit, we came in third in the Pep Rally. We vowed that the next year we would come in first. We celebrated our first high school summer with parties and by eating lots of PIZZA. Our summer over, we came back to school confident and secure as Sophomores. We worked on raising money for our class by having car washes and a booth at the Octoberfest. We also took one of the”more important steps in our high school years We ordered our class rings. As we waited and waited for our rings to arrive, we found other ways to occupy our time. We channeled our energies now into the winning of Spirit Week and the Pep Rally. Showing we can accomplish anything when we work together, we came in first in these events. With our class rings on our fingers, we felt more mature and began the ritual of McDonald trips. Then came our wonderful, fun-filled Sophomore summer. Our Junior year began and we walked with our heads held high, for we now were upperclassmen. We attempted to raise came in second this year at the Pep Rally. Practicing our dance, steps for the Junior Prom, we voyaged to Studio New YorH and danced to The Police, Pat Benatar, and John Cougar. Our Junior Prom upon us, we all were seen in our gowns and tux¬ edoes driving to the Marriott Hotel. Then came our summer filled with parties and tearful good-byes to our graduating friends. Senioritis, that strange contagious disease that affects onT ® Seniors, started to infect us. It was our final year and soon we would be on our own. We started off with a Pep Rally, where we won the tug-of-war contest, proving the Senior class to be the strongest. With our overwhelming amount of magazine sales, our class set a new record that will not be broken for a long time. Our Senior Prom was like a dream as we pictured ourselves leaving in our favorite car, a MUSTANG. Then, with the arrival of our yearbooks, we realized how near graduation really was. Now, as we wish each other luck, we celebrate our graduation and say our good-byes at the many parties over the summer. His helicopter, flown by Lt. Col. Paul Shinkevich, nears the airport. The crowd is awed by the aeronautical maneuvers of Air Force pilots Kurt Knoefel and Dave Cardona, who are escorting the President ' s helicopter. The helicopter makes a quick landing and the first to exit are dark-suited Secret Service men Claude Dion, Chris Magnuson and John Manfreda. They are followed by the beautiful, but dangerous, spies Kirstin Coffin, Lori Krar, and Laurie Woodruff. Then, the President dashes from the helicopter, escaping the crowd by hopping into his limousine. His chauffeur. Jay Muska, revs the engine. The President ' s top aide, Audra Philippon, is already in the car waiting to brief him about his first stop, the Suffield Sands Hotel. She states: This posh resort, located on the shoreline of Congamond Lake, is owned by Lori Luff and Marie Thresher and managed by Ray Daddano. It was first funded by business entrepreneur, Dan Pizzoferrato, on the advice of his investment analyst, Glen Bunnell. Architects Jeff Dallesander and Tim Maloney transformed this barren plot of land into a magnificent hotel. Penny Forbes, prominent landscaper, and florist, Kathy Guillemette, added to the hotel ' s beauty with lovely floral gardens. Through the efforts of marketing analysts Kathleen Quinn and Carol Zaczynski, the hotel became a suc¬ cess. The unusual, striking interior was designed by interior decorators Lisa Engler, Allison Orr, and Lisa Sneath. At this point, the President turns his attention to the wondrous building they are now approaching. As the President enters the Suffield Sands, the Press swarm around him. Among those covering his visit are Time cor¬ respondent Chris Burnham, and Kerri Gowdy, reporter for the World Advertiser News, published by Mary Beth Prew. Photographers Scott Sylvia and Larry Williams flash picture after picture. While the President makes his way to the microphone to give a statement to the press, newcaster Angela Arnold, signaled by mass communications ex¬ pert Patty D ' Alessio, announces in her effervescent style, Ladies and Gentlemen, the President of the Uni ted States! (and he ' s wearing a Bean ' s ragwool sweater! ) Fire Chief Ed Golec, Chief of Police Stephen Chapman, First Selectman Richard Wood, and Dog Warden Andy Smith applaud and cheer as they imagine the recognition this visit will bring to the town. The President, after the applause stops, states: I ' m pleased to return to this awesome town! But seriously, folks, I am here not only to promote the construction of Cecchini Hospital, com¬ monly known as the Rubber Room of West Suffield, but to discuss with the public vicious issues of vicious im¬ portance. Later today a press conference will be held here at the hotel. Thank you! Remember, GO FOR IT! It ' s been real. Environmental lawyer Julie Dowd calls out, Hey Dude! like many others with questions unanswered. The president makes no comment and walks away. On the way upstairs, he meets Karen Austin, vacationing at the hotel. She has recently won Connecticut Lotto for $1.3 million dollars and is considering donating some of her winnings to the hospital. On his way to his suite, he also encounters Lynn Fahey, owner of the Fahey Robotics Company, but his time is limited and he hur¬ riedly goes on his way. When he reaches his suite, he finds the First Lady, the former Deborah Case, watching a fashion show by famous designers Maria Basdekis, Lorcen DeChesser, and Saudi Glynn. The President imagines all the money spent and wonders, Why can ' t she shop at Bob ' s? Hairdresser Carol Moore and cosmetologists Julie Bissonette and Debbie Botticello are preparing the models for the fashion show. The President, scanning the room, decides this isn ' t for him, and leaves. Riding the elevator down to the restaurant, efficiently managed by Donna Klesczeivski and Kim Millick, he meets bellhops lohn Arciszewski, Kevin Carney, David Pugh, and Lee Weller. The President invites them to lunch, but they are on duty. Then, the President enters the restaurant, where he sees many of his staff. Senators Byron Bailey and Jason Nadler, Congresswoman Darci Cortelli, Secretary of State Denise Falk, Attorney General C ort Wilson, Press Secretary Eric Remington, Vice President Chris Perry, and Polish Ambassador Beata Grochowska make room for the President at their table. The President orders a piece of famous Wildcat Cake, baked by chef Sherlean Davis. Eating this cake reminds him of his high school cafeteria. Vocalist Cheryl Champion and concert pianist Monique Goldrick entertain the President while he is eating. Corporate Lawyers Kim Smith and Lisa Under¬ wood walk toward the President ' s table, hoping to discuss the inflation-fighting plans of Nobel Prize-winning mathematicians Steven Auerbach and Anne Mason. However, billionaire playboy Chris Wimpfheimer now appears in the doorway. One look from him and Kim and Lisa are putty in his hands. As night falls, the President ven¬ tures back upstairs, where his wife is waiting for him. Early the next morning, the President leaves for the Hospital where he will conduct a press conference. Chauffeur Jay Muska vawns while starting the computerized limousine. Ms. Philippon says, Good Morning, Mr. President! , as the President thinks, Can ' t I ever lose her? After a while the President begins to notice a tapping noise. Suddenly, there is a deafening bang and the car stops dead. Jay begins to cry. Mr. President wonders if the fickle finger of fate has struck again. Ms. Philippon, level-headed as usual, calls the Suffield Computer World. At this computer company Sandy Bushey, computer programmer, answers the phone. When told of the dilemma. Computer specialists Laurie Bennett, Jim Bielonko, Joe Carrieri, and Tom Molleur volunteer to save the day, leaving Sandy with the remaining computer specialists Sharon Fusick, Ken Mather, and Kim Pearson, to mind the shop. At the car, the President and Joe reminisce about hockey, especially the game in which Suf¬ field beat Enfield, 11-0. While these two chat, the other computer technicians are busily at work. After the car is fixed, Mr. President rolls on to the hospital with uplifted spirits. As the President enters the hospital, mass hysteria surrounds him. Paul Eheander, and Julie Sauer have come to the conference to ask when the President will be paying his bill for his hotel suite” Farmer Robin Grabauskas, agricultural businesswoman Janet Brown, Forest Rangers Dave Craig and Bob Furci, and Canadian Mounted Policeman Doug Ouellette, all discuss the President s agricultural policy. Medical Assistant Robin Colson, criminal lawyer Tracy Dineen, and head of the hospital ' s computer department Cathy Hamborg are anxious to hear the President ' s speech. Social worker Nancy Valeo and maternity nurse Dorine LeCuyer are busy thinking of questions to ask him. Radiological Technician Paula Caisse and Medical Technician Paula Marek remember all the jokes and funny remarks the President made while in high school. Everyone now awaits, the introduction of the President. Mr Cecchini asks the advisors to the class of 1 9$4 to introduce the President. With his bifocals on, Mr. Galiat- sos begins to read the introduction, but must stop because Mr. Gregor is zipping down the hall in his electric wheelchair. Then, both advisors begin reading the introduction together, saying: Ladies and Gentlemen, we would like to introduce the President of the United States, a graduate of Suffield High School, Mr. Steven Galet- ta. ' The crowd cheers. After the President has finished his speech promoting the hospital wing and commen¬ ding the staff on its fine work, accomplished novelist Adam Roy and screenwriter Annabel Carrasco beg the Presi¬ dent to allow them to write a novel about his life. President Galetta asks for more time before he makes his deci¬ sion, and smiles as sanitation engineer Daren Hall stumbles off the garbage truck into the lobby. Naval officer David Buskey stands next to famous skier Bob Barden and his agent, Jim Martocchio. Soon the press conference is finished and President Galetta must return to Washington. Before his helicopter arrives, the President looks around him and wonders: To think that as a teenager I thought this town was boring! Amazing how auicklv things can change!
