Soon he could see a truth in the stars and he thought I ' d like to tell every¬ body. So he went to the village and he said to the people look see what I found. But no one listened. So he went back to his house and sat on the roof and looked at the stars and after a while he was still there and the stars were still there and he thought the truth is still there and I ' d still like to share it. So he went back to the village but this time he tried a gentle way. — It ' s a beautiful day. 50 TERI FALKOWSKI All that is gold does not glitter Not all those who wander are lost The old that is strong does not wither Deep roots are not reached by the frost From the ashes a fire shall be woken A light from the shadows shall spring Renewed shall be blade that was broken The crownless again shall be king. — J.RR Tolkien 51 ANDREA RIDLEY I MICHAEL DRUZOLOWSKI KAREN ELIZABETH SAMUELSON if ivt NtytrLovd, How con i k Lovtd? if i ' ve Ntytr C How Q)N u V £ar Sin6in ; if I ' ve Ntvtr Uirwtd, Hm caN l kNow? if ivt NtVfer lived. You are you and I am I and if by chance we find each other, it ' s beautiful. - F. Peris C JOHN GRAHAM CHERYL MANDIROLA Hand me down my golden crown and let me ride Don ' t deny the highway in my soul. 60 RONALD DABKOWSKI BRENDA PHILLIPS 61 JOHN ZAVISZA STEVEN BUTRYMAN STEVEN DOUGLAS KOLNSBERG Fred The Time Has Come ' ' Xenophobia: The fear of the unknown. Xenophobia is a survival factor and is part of the genetic code of al¬ most all organisms. If an organism perceives something which is unknown, it moves rapidly away because the un¬ known often contains dangers. Those animals who ran from the unknown lived to reproduce and transmit this instinctual fear. Those who did not where often killed, and thus did not transmit this lack of fear to offspring, Thus it is normal, and maybe even desirable, to fear the unknown. But progress would never be accomplished if it were not for those who dare the unknown; who swallow their fear and firmly march ahead. ' 62 LUCINDA BROCKETT Cindy I think if God is dead, it ' s because he laughed himself to death. Everyone should hack off at least 3 times in their life — morning, noon and night. — Sam As the bird flies, so shall I WALTER DREWNOWSKI RICHARD DAY Time is but the stream I go a-fishing in. I drink at it; but while I drink I see the sandy bottom and detect how shallow it is. It ' s thin current slides away, but eternity remains. I would drink deeper; fish in the sky, whose bottom is pebbly with stars. I cannot count one. I know not the first letter of t he alphabet. I have always been regretting that I was not as wise as the day I was born. — Walden 63 SUSAN LEA WALSH t I C ' ft Sue Happiness is like a butterfly. The more you chase it, the more it will elude you. But if you turn your attention to other things, It comes and softly sits on your shoulder. ALLEN JUBREY PAUL SUZENSKI Mort Give the world the best you have and the best will come back to you. People can ' t tell us apart we stagger so much alike. 64 CATHERINE LEARY Katy The teepee is much better to live in; always clean, warm in winter, cool in summer; easy to move the white man builds big house, cost much money, like big cage, shut out sun, can never move, always sick, Indians and animals know better how to live than white man nobody can ever be in good health if he does not have all the time fresh air, sunshine and good water. DEBORAH REYNOLDS Debs” Living is Loving lam not in this world to live up to your expectations; nor are you in this world to live up to mine. You are You and I am I. JOHN KEEVER 74 JOANNE DRENZEK Does the song of the sea End at the shore Or in the hearts of those Who listen to it? GINA LAURETTI JOEAUDET Basketball is GREAT! 75 LYNN REINHARDT There are two ways to spread light one is to be the candle, and the other is to reflect it. CHERYLCOBB Why walk alone? Why worry when it ' s warm over here? You ' ve got so much to say, say what you mean. Mean what you ' re thinking, and think anything. Why must you waste your life away? You ' ve got to live for today, then let it go. HOLLY WAHL A friend may be reckoned a masterpiece of nature. 77 DOUGLAS PACKARD RICHARD PIEJKO 78 MARK WELCH % KAREN M. MANNIX I sought my soul But my soul I could not see. I sought my God, But my God eluded me. I sought my brother. And I found all three 79 80 THOMAS WILLIAMS TED BENESKI To laugh often and love much; to win the re¬ spect of intelligent peo¬ ple and the affection of children: to stand high in the opinion of hon¬ est critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to give one s self; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived — This is Success. Professional educators will tell you that the training and education one gets in the Army are among the best in the world. In fact, a report published by the Teachers College of Columbia University states that the Armed Forces pro¬ vide one of the most comprehensive and ad¬ vanced educational programs to be found any¬ where, and have, in many ways, surpassed the Nation s colleges and universities in educating American youth. This is understandable, in light of the high level of technology reached by our Armed Forces and the resulting need for highly educated and trained men in almost ev¬ ery category. The U.S. Army might be called the world s largest ' university ' More than 400,000 mili¬ tary personnel are engaged in formal, on-duty education. There are more than 38 military schools and literally thousands of classrooms scattered throughout the country. This great educational program covers a whole range of subjects from the three R ' s to those required for a Ph.D. degree. If you want additional education, you can get it in the Army, no matter what the subject may be. While your main job in the Army is to serve as a soldier, the Army will make every effort to help you continue your education while on ac¬ tive duty. It goes without saying that this will require considerable dedication, hard work and sacrifice on your part, since some of your spare time must be given over to study. But for the ambitious soldier who is determined to make every moment count in furthering his educa¬ tion or technical knowledge, the Army provides means and opportunities which are virtually unmatched elsewhere.
