Miele. Unlike the previous squads, which consisted of sophomores and juniors, this years group boasted many fresh- men as well. Although this wasn't the year of complete vic- tory, the cheerleaders kept up the school morale and had a good time doing it! -Nina Osher CHEERLEADERS Captains: Tami Mack Donna Bradice Dara Caponigro, Stacy'Ciminello Elisa Greco, Lynn Guccione Kathy Faillia, Megan Karlen Ei- leen Kuehn, Carolyn Larsen Ade- line Licata, Karen Pertes Sheryl Nash, Felicia Tomeo Being a cheerleader is an honor, it is fun and fulfilling. We have pride in our school and the team that we cheer for. We don't al- ways expect to win, but when we do our spirits really soar! Contri- buting to Sufferns school spirit, we all add our fullest! -Donna Bradice VAR TWIRLERS Captain: Marianne Collinsg Head Majorette: Heidi Osborng Marie Garbarino, Lori Lufts, Lori Karp, Kathy Ciati, Sonja Savoury, Cheryl O'Brien Even though the Varsity Twirlers of 1979 were never able to quench their thirsts, they made it through sprained hands, cracked knees, glasses thrown across the field, the embarrass- ment of the impossible tosses and were always able to miss practice. TWIRLERS Captain: Robin Hall, Co-Capt: Marjorie Yelleng Laura Rivera, Doreen Doremus, Donna Ciati, Teresa Faulkner, Carol Diorio Remember when the music was a little slow, the routine too new to know, forgetting what comes next at the half-time show, makes us all embarassed and faces aglow. The marches, drops, twirls, and swirls, the smiling faces of all us girls. IN THIS ISSUE The Transltlon The Workout The Game The Victory The final bell rings, but for a large number of students the hardest, and yet most enjoyable, part of the day is still to come. For twenty minutes the cafeteria is filled with talking, laughing kids. They gradually drift toward the locker room where the jeans and blouses are temporarily exchanged for sweats, shorts, and sneakers, The next two hours are spent at difficult, tiring practices. These are not an end in themselves, but a stepping stone to the game. Several times a week, the teams put their skill on the line in a battle of strength and strategy. When victory results, the pain involved in practice is forgotten and replaced by the pleasure of winning THE FUTURE STARS 4 ' .
