v ,X LV.BASKETBALL While the Varsity was clinching the Rockland County P.S,A.I.. basketball champion- ship for the second straight year, the junior Varsity proved that it will furnish excellent material for next year's Varsity with a successful season of 10 wins and 7 losses. This placed Suffern third in the county junior league. Edward Clark, james Hoffman, joseph Nappo, Harley Smith, and Donald Stewart proved a strong, capable starting five, ably backed up by the remaining members of the squad. The entire squad was well-balanced, and displayed marked improvement in each suc- cessive game. A game captain was appointed before each game, and an honorary captain elected at the close of the season. joseph Nappo was accorded this honor by his teammates. LV.FOOTBALL The little Mounties had a very successful season as far as experience goes. They were coached by john Medve, who did an excellent job with the boys. This year the j.V.s pro- duced plenty of available material for next years Varsity squad. Some of the potentialities ate, Ed Clark, who quarterbacked, the J.V. squadg joe Nappo, hard-working center, Pitt Hoffman, charging guard, and john Dembnicki, tall pass-receiving end. Also Bob Meehan, Ed Becraft, Blackie Consiglio, Bob Hill, Herbert Harvey, Snap Van Dunk, Bill Keers, Richard August, and Wilbur Stiles. 1llL 415. ..a ,lllk af' I W' 1 f . Promising candidates of past season experience were made up of Paul Villarosa, Francis Dunnigan, james Rice, john Dembnicki, Norwood Ernst. Williiim Morrow. Peter Callaghan, Lee Stewart, Harley Smith. and joseph Nappo. Newcomers who will bolster the strength of our team should be: Edward Waligrciski, Wallace Russo, Michael Brown, Burton Thompson, Ronald Becraft, W'illiam Keers, Glen Brubaker, Gary Herring, Edward Newlands, and Edward Small. Vanity C oacb-PETER KURACHEK Jr. Vanizy C0d6b-WILLIAM MAHANEY TRACK The 1947 track and held team faced the task of upholding the fine record set by the 1946 squad. The schedule included a total of lil meets including 5 triangular meets, 7 dual meets, and 4 championships. The team lost many of its star competitors but made up for these losses with team balance. The middle distance runners and pointers carried the consistent scoring punch which was well supplemented by the pole vaulters and high jumpers. Two sprinters from last years state championship sprint relay team, Bruce Williams and Paul Villarosa. formed the nucleus of another fast quartet. it .P fini'
