li A 1 1 e STITIIEYI' CUINCIL The Senior High Student Council is charged with the responsibility of governing many aspects of stu- dent life. In so doing the elected members gain experi- ence in discussing the promoting legislation that will react to the benefit of the student body as a unined whole, and thus make our school community a better one. This year's council went at its task with a will, and when its terms of office had expired, the members were able to look back upon a busy year with many accomplishments. During the year the council voted to make the Mountain Echo subscription a part of the GO. card, and sponsored the sending of three repre- sentatives to the Empire State Student Press Associa- tion Conference at Syracuse. It also sponsored the March of Dimes and Magazine Campaigns, presented an interesting variety of entertaining and educational assemblies, and too, took charge of the Suffern High Band in their performance at the teachers' convention in New York City. The funds for support ofthe numer- ous clubs ancl sports were administered by the council and they also sponsored a New Years Dance, continued the effective Hall Guide System, sold pins, buttons and banners. It also financed the opening of a school store, the Mountie Shop, which the Retailing Class of Mr. Stangler established and managed so successfully. Prendenz ............ ........ Ji as f-'14 ,.4 B'-1 - The Suffern High School Band under the new director, Mr. joseph N. Roman, started 05' the season by playing for a meeting of the Mothers Club at the high school, at which time the faculty was received. They also played at all the pep rallies and games during the football season. A short concert was given at the Lafayette Theatre in the fall, and the band was also the highlight of a fall concert given at the school by the entire music department. A trip to New York to play for the Teachers' Convention at St. Nicholas Arena was another important event of the year. Our members participated in the llO-piece All-County Band, and our own band provided musical entertainment for the afternoon session. The school had the honor this year of having a Festival held here on May 6 and 7 in which the band and soloists entered on a contest basis. The band, and the chorus also spon- sored a Spring Concert which was a great success. A brass sextet, formed from the band, has served both school and community by playing for group singing. The band is looking forward to keeping up its great service to the community and school by continuing to give concerts during the summer. ?
