MEMBERS OF THE CLASS OF 1947: Congratulations to the members of the Class of 1947. You have fulfilled a desire, attained an objective and found a new beginning. The objective has been in many cases the acquiring of charted knowledge, or receipt of formal certification or granted oppor- tunity for further study. These seeming objectives are really only means, means carrying you inexorably toward the development of a total personality, good or bad, which will benefit or retard man- kind. I hope that your subjects and classes have provided you with the knowledge to think clearly and honestly and in addition have served as laboratories for the development of sound judgments, for the achievement of selfless devotion to high ideals, and for the attainment of respect and appreciation for all mankind. at home and abroad. Again congratulations upon your graduation from high school. I hope that the education gained through the elementary and sec- ondary schools of this school district has kindled a desire for further learning and has helped prepare you for the greater tasks ahead. If these can measure satisfactorily The culture and the knowledge each has wrought Into his way of life, then all is well. However, proofs of educated men Lie not in souvenirs but useful deeds And contributions of enlightenment. How fairly do you treat your fellow men? How squarely do you face your daily tasks? How brightly lighted is your inner self By music, and the arts, and literature? Here is the challenge to create anew A world community of honor and respect. LESTER E. RoUNDs, High School Principal.
