Stump is reflected in the ship's coat of arms The many decorations received by Admiral Stump for his exemplary service in the Pacific theater during World War ll are represented in the shield The blue silhouette cross refers to the Navy Cross awarded him twice while ln command of Carrier Division 245 the white central star denotes the Silver Star Medal awarded for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against enemy-held islands. The Legion .Of Merit which he was awarded three times is indicated by the crossed arrows in scarlet and white. The CLS. COMMANDING OFFICER i Commander Gregory S. Cruze is the son of the late Jack and Yvonne Cruze of New Orleans, LOU. 1 isiana. He was born in Hawaii in 1952 where is fa- f ther, a naval aviator, served as Commanding Offi.f cer at Midway Island after service in the Pacific A during World War ll and the Korean. conflict. Hef, attended the Episcopal High School in Alexan-VW dria, Virginia, the University of Virginia, and Flor-A ida Southern College. He is also a graduate of the A United State Marine Corps Command and Staffi College. A' . Most recently, he served as Head of the Joint Battle Management Command, Control,i Communications, Computers and Intelligence fi Branch in the Surface Warfare Division CN86l in the Pentagon. During that tour, he also served as 1 a Ll.S. delegate to NATO Naval Group One where D he chaired a Specialist Team on Theater Ballistic Missile Defense. His personal decorations include the Defense' Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Ser- vice Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal Ciive' awardsj, the Navy Achievement Medal, and various service and unit awards.
