QBillJ Hardy was born in Queens, New York and was commis- sioned through the NROTC program when he graduated from the Iowa State University in 1981. His initial assignment was to the USS SPRUANCE CDD-9635 were he served as Gunnery Officer, Fire Control Officer, Navigator and Combat Systems Officer. In September 1985 he reported to the Naval Military Personnel Command as a Rating Assignment Officer for the Sea, Special Programs Branch QNMPC-4093. Upon completion of Department Head School, Lieutenant Commander Hardy re- .ported aboard USS KINKAID CDD-9653 in February 1989 as the Combat Systems Officer. In October 1991 he assigned to the staff of the Commander, U.S. Seventh Fleet homeported in Yokosuka, Japan were he served as the Fleet Scheduler until March 1994. 1 Y Lieutenant Commander Hardy is married to the former Mary Patricia Montgomery of St Paul, MN- He and his wife reside in Chesapeake, Va, with their son John.
