Experience, personality, and leadership are neces- sary qualities to achieve success in any profession. Strong Vincentis principal, Mr. Bertil C. Gustavson, certainly possesses all three characteristics. He is a true representative of Strong Vincent when he portrays spirit and enthusiasm during the rallies and assemblies. Mr. Gustavson unites the school into a well-running, mechanized student body. His career began at Strong Vincent, where he taught English, History, P.O.D., and Economics. In 1946 he was promoted to assistant principal of Vincent and in 1959 to principal of Roosevelt Junior High. Due to the retirement of Mr. Gillespie, Mr. Gustavson once again returned to Vincent, this time as the principal admin- istrator. position. He is a firm, but understanding man and edu- cator. ur many Ihanks To be a teacher, one must possess certain qualities, so that he may instill in his students a sense of enrich- ment and learning. He must have a sensitive under- standing of the young people of today, and the person- ality to function well with students and faculty alike. We at Vincent are fortunate enough to have just that man. ln addition to teaching regular and advanced bi- ology, he has served our athletic department in the capacities of J .V. football coach and varsity track coach. His Little Colonels have compiled an admira- ble record over the years, while the track team im- proves more each year under his expert management. Besides winning victories on the field, he also wins the admiration of his boys who bring their troubles to Coach, Several of our most outstanding athletes in past years bear witness to his many coaching skills. His friendly smile and constantly helpful attitude make him one of Vincent's most popular teachers. We therefore join the entire student body in thanking him for his many contributions to Vincent, and we grate- fully dedicate this 1965 Spokesman to Mr. Glen Barthelson. One of Mr. Barthelson's most enjoyable duties is presenting athletic letters to his boys on Letter Day. Last fall Bart presented letters to deserving J .V. football lettermen, after giving a summary of their over-all team record to the student body. Bart's dedication to his boys is shown by his long hours of hard work. After school, in the fall and spring of every year, he works diligently to produce outstanding athletic teams. Here Coach Barthelson demonstrates a muscle building exercise on the parallel bars.
