GIIDLS' SDUIQTI M Jmim. The girls have been very active in athletics this year and the competi- tion between classes has been exceedingly keen. As beginners, the freshmen show much promising material: they should be able to go places and do things next year. The first sport of the season was volley ball. After a series of spirited games, the seniors annexed the championship. Next came speedball. After various bruises, bumps, and kicked shins, the seniors found themselves with another championship. Then came the favorite sport of the year-basketball. The teams this year seemed very evenly matched, as the close scores indicated: but, by the small margin of two points, the seniors again emerged victorious. lt's a. habit: they've been doing it ever since they were freshmen. There was keen competition for positions on the All-Star basketball team: but after deep cogitation, Mrs. Page finally selected the following girls: REDS BLUES R. Anderson Center La V. Garrett N. L. Shoemaker, Mgr. Running Center E. Fisher O. Page Forward A. Awbrey D. Thomas, fCapt.J Forward F. Ferguson M. Cowan Guard M. Tsuboi, lCapt.j H. Adams Guard O. Gregg l. M. Shepard Sub. E. Henry The Reds emerged victorious by a score of 30-12. At the time the annual went to print. baseball and kickball were still to be played, but the seniors will probably have two more championships. If they do, they will have a clean sweep for this year. Not bad! -50-

in TENNII Tennis proved to be a most interesting sport this year. More students have participated in this sport, and although we havent won the county cham- pionship, we have gone larther up the ladder to success. Those to compete in the county tournament at Visalia were: boys' singles, Harold Fisher: girls' singles, Orpha Page: boys' doubles, Bob Ed- wards and Carl Damann: girls' doubles, Olive Gregg and Cecile Edwards, mixed doubles, Bryant Minor and Frances Ferguson. Three matches were arranged for the second team which consisted of! boys' singles, lack Cline: girls' singles, Edythe Fisher: boys' doubles, Bobbie Richardson and Iohn Davis: girls' doubles, Martha Perkins and Mae Merle Molfino: mixed doubles, Olive Gregg and Howard Fisher. During the season the boys' singles won five and lost three: the girls' singles won three and lost five: the boys' doubles won four and lost four: the girls' doubles won three and lost five: the mixed doubles won one and lost seven. Since all those on the squad this year are seniors except one, there will have to be a new team altogether: however, the prospects look fairly bright for next year. Scores for the matches: Visalia - Strathmore Corcoran Strathmore Hanford - Strathmore Porterville Strathmore Exeter - Strathmore Delano - Strathmore Tulare - Strathmore Dinuba - Strathinore -51-
