I'l EAVYWEIIEHT BAS IYETISALL The heavyweights had a very successful season this year, winning five games out of the eight. Among these five games, two were won from our close but friendly rivals, Lindsay and Porterville. There were two very close games-one with Woodlake, which was won by them in the last few seconds by a long, arching basket: the other with Exeter, which they won by two points in an overtime game. GIIDLS' SDUIQTI M Jmim. The girls have been very active in athletics this year and the competi- tion between classes has been exceedingly keen. As beginners, the freshmen show much promising material: they should be able to go places and do things next year. The first sport of the season was volley ball. After a series of spirited games, the seniors annexed the championship. Next came speedball. After various bruises, bumps, and kicked shins, the seniors found themselves with another championship. Then came the favorite sport of the year-basketball. The teams this year seemed very evenly matched, as the close scores indicated: but, by the small margin of two points, the seniors again emerged victorious. lt's a. habit: they've been doing it ever since they were freshmen. There was keen competition for positions on the All-Star basketball team: but after deep cogitation, Mrs. Page finally selected the following girls: REDS BLUES R. Anderson Center La V. Garrett N. L. Shoemaker, Mgr. Running Center E. Fisher O. Page Forward A. Awbrey D. Thomas, fCapt.J Forward F. Ferguson M. Cowan Guard M. Tsuboi, lCapt.j H. Adams Guard O. Gregg l. M. Shepard Sub. E. Henry The Reds emerged victorious by a score of 30-12. At the time the annual went to print. baseball and kickball were still to be played, but the seniors will probably have two more championships. If they do, they will have a clean sweep for this year. Not bad! -50-
