Ianuary 25, 1936 The first semester ended today with finals. Some fun!! February . 1936 April 18, 1936 The seniors presented their class play, The New Pool, tonight and it was a real success. Mr. I-lemmerling directed both the play and the orchestra and both were very good. March 27. 1936 The glee clubs presented their operetta this evening. It was Tune In and as the title suggests. it was about a radio station. It was a grand operetta. Hoot mon! I thought I'd never stop laughing. April 11, 1936 The track teams all went to Tulare today to participate in the 20-30 Re- lays. There have been quite a few track meets lately and Strathmore has been doing very well in all of them. April 16, 1936 The Spanish Club held its annual Fiesta tonight at the High School. Very hot Spanish food was served. In fact it was so hot that they had ice cream for dessert. The members of the club played Spanish games and judging from all the noise that came from the building, I believe everyone had a good time. The Girl Reserves gave their annual Mothers' Tea at the club house this afternoon. The theme was Iapanese and it was very effective. The room was beautifully decorated. April 25. 1936 The service Club sponsored a Play Day today for girls from Lindsay, Exeter, Visalia, Tulare. and Porterville. The girls played several games and then the Service Club girls served a light luncheon. May 8, 1936 Tonight was the night of the Iunior play. It was entitled Hold Every- thing and it certainly was a grand success. May 13, 1936 S. U. H. S. had its annual exhibit this evening. Mkom and Pop found out what Iunior had made for little sister, and what Nelly had made for her hope chest. I think every one enjoyed seeing what the students have accomplished this year. May 23, 1936 This is what all the Iuniors and Seniors look forward to all year as the last big event before graduation. The Iuniors entertained the Seni- ors this evening at the Iunior-Senior Banquet. The student body was invited to the dance after the banquet and l'm sure the Seniors were pleased with this last tribute to them. May 31, 1936 The Baccalaureate service this year was more impressive than ever be- fore. All the Seniors looked very lovely in their new clothes. It hap- pened that this year Baccalaureate was the night before graduation. une 1. 1936 What a busy day this has been! During the day, everyone was rushing around signing annuals and talking about graduation. The orchestra practiced with the Seniors during the morning. What a wonderful ending to a wonderful year! There is always something sad to me about graduation although I'm not graduating. I guess it's just hear- ing the Seniors talk about the good times they've had in High School and how they hate to leave. We all wish them luck during the coming years. .-41-

DIAIQY, 1935 September 10. 1935 School opened today with a lot of noise and excitement. It certainly seemed good to be back and see everyone again. Now l'll have an ex- cuse for not making my bed in the morning. September 20, 1935 Believe it or not, but we girls persuaded the boys and Mr. Lightner to let us go with the players on the bus to the night game at Delano. We must have been a good influence because we won 2110. October 19, 1935 Excitement and then somell Strathmore played its old rival, Porter- ville today, and Strathmore emerged victorious. The score was 7-6. November 2, 1935 The friendly enemies, Strathmore and Lindsay, met in a combat upon the turf of S. Ll. H. S. on this Saturday afternoon and again the Spar- tans were victorious. 7-6 must be our lucky number. November 8, 1935 Mr. Lightner was unable to accompany his team to Delano tonight be- cause he was ill with the flu and his boys didn't know how to act when he wasn't along. They forgot their manners and beat the Tigers 55-0. November 14, 1935 We had an unexpected vacation today. The furnace broke and we were not permitted to stay at school lmuch to our disappointmentl. November 19, 1935 In honor of the heavyweight football team, Coach Lightner gave a ban- quet for them this evening at his home. November 22, 1935 The Girl Reserve-Service Club play was presented tonight at the Hiqh School Auditorium. lt was entitled A'Help Yourself. It certainly was a success. The football boys certainly are lucky. Here is another affair in their honor. After the play, the Girl's Auxiliary sponsored a dance for S. Ll. H. S.'s mightv men of the qirdiron. lt seems that football is much simpler than dancing for some of the boys. December , 1935 The Seniors had a hayride as their class party tonight and from all l hear it was quite a success. December 20, 1935 We had quite a different kind of assembly program today. For some time there has been an argument between the girls' orchestra and the boys' orchestra. Today they had a contest in assembly and it proved to be quite an affair. The Razz-ma-taz-jazz Boys won the contest but the Spartanett7s are not discouraged. The girls will entertain the boys at dinner some time next week. Ianuary 3, 1936 Today was quite a big day. First, it was Homecoming Day. It was a lot of fun to have all of one's former schoolmates back again. Then there was the basketball game. S. U. H. S. played Tulare-and won to make it all the better. And then came the happy ending-the Spartan Knight Dance. Ianuary 4, 1936 The Iunior class defied S. 1.1. H. S. and held its meeting across the road on the airport and decided to have a snow party. Today was the big day and nearly the whole class went to Lodqepole and spent the day. They ate beans-and more beans. George Lewis took motion pictures which will be shown to the student body. M40-

SOCIETY Dear Susie: Here it is nearly time for Baccalaureate and graduation and I haven't written to tell you of the good times we have had at S. LI. H. S. Early in October the Girl Reserves held their annual initiation candle lighting ceremony. It was very beautiful with the girls dressed all in white and holding lighted candles. A few weeks later the Service Club held its im- pressive formal initiation. The senior class had planned on a hay ride and weiner bake at the river: but, because of the rain, they had their first party at Murry Park and attended the Elks' Show afterwards. Next to follow were the juniors who had an unofficial snow party at Lodgepole where moving pictures were taken of the members of the class. As usual, there were a number of bruises and it was also reported that Mr. Lightner sat on his glasses and broke them! On the Saturday night before Halloween, the Girl Reserves journeyed to Clifford's barn, there to hobnob with witches, ghosts, and the like for three or four hours. The freshmen held a Christmas party at the high school I understand that someone threw a box of papers in through the window and the frosh had to pick them up, Homecoming day was celebrated in the first part of january The alumni presented the program, and in the middle of the afternoon, the Service Club gave a tea for all the girls. The annual Spartan Knights dance was given that night after the basketball games. The sophomores had a theatre party. After that they returned to the school for refreshments and games, On April eighteenth the Girl Reserves gave their annual Mothers Tea The theme of a japanese tea was carried out by the decorations and by the two japanese girls dressed in native costume who served. The tea was served from a solid silver tea pot three hundred years old! Gn the week-end of May fifeenth the Service Club went to Camp Nelson Did we have fun! May twenty-third brought the long looked for junior-Senior banquet Um-m-m-ml the good food! I ate and ate and ate. fI'm afraid to look at a scalesll I thought, when I entered the club house, that I had been transported to Hawaii-palm trees, grass skirts, 'n everything. to S. U. H. S. for much needed refreshments. every minute of it. 'Bye, OPHELIA. -42.. Honors are being poured thick and fast on the heads of the mighty seniors The Girl Reserves gave a swimming party for the senior girls Did I have fun! I dove in-rather flat I'll admit--and splashed around mightily The juniors and sophomores had a swimming party at Lindsay Heights on the twenty-ninth. The exercise made them hungry. So they came back Hasn't this been a busy year-and a happy one! I've certainly enjoyed
