A girls' quarette from La Verne College entertained by singing well known songs and novelty numbers. The value of an education was the topic of a talk by Cameron Beck of the New York Stock Exchange, A variation of the unusual type of musical programs was one given by the Durfelt and Ebby evangelists. The program consisted of marimbaphones and bells. The Chevrolet Motor Company presented some very interesting moving pictures on the manufacture of automobiles, safety first, and similar topics. We had an unusual program when Ernest Nickel whistled for us. He gave some advice and information on whistling and during the next day or so, there seemed to be a number of embryo or would-be whistlers around school. All students and alumni turned out for the annual Home Coming Day. The afternoon was spent in an assembly program and rally, ending with basket- ball and football games between the alumni and the students. The Spartan Knights honored the mothers on Mothers' Day on May eighth with an assembly program. The boys' glee club assisted them by singing. In keeping with the modern times, the sophomores conducted an amateur contest. A large amount of talent was found in the four classes as a result of the program. -39.-

Betty Rose Morton having all the handsome heroes on their knees before the evening was over. Such fatal charm! Bobbie Edwards becoming very embarrassed and red in the face because Dan Cupid shot a fatal dart. Wilma Rogers with a pathetic tremelo in her voice as she sang about her garden gate being off the hinges but the robin was singing there still. Also Lester warning Ierry, A'When you talk, don't say so much. Iessie Oldham on her knees, shouting, Oh, Lawdy, Lawdy, save me from de ebil spirits! -av-.fe CDEDETTA Under the direction of Ernest Hemmerling, the combined Glee Clubs presented the operetta, Tune In, on March twenty-seventh, to a large and appreciative audience. A fast action comedy revealed the troubles of a radio station owner until his manager comes to the rescue with his quick wit, thereby saving the sta- tion and creating a happy ending. DIAIQY, 1935 September 10. 1935 School opened today with a lot of noise and excitement. It certainly seemed good to be back and see everyone again. Now l'll have an ex- cuse for not making my bed in the morning. September 20, 1935 Believe it or not, but we girls persuaded the boys and Mr. Lightner to let us go with the players on the bus to the night game at Delano. We must have been a good influence because we won 2110. October 19, 1935 Excitement and then somell Strathmore played its old rival, Porter- ville today, and Strathmore emerged victorious. The score was 7-6. November 2, 1935 The friendly enemies, Strathmore and Lindsay, met in a combat upon the turf of S. Ll. H. S. on this Saturday afternoon and again the Spar- tans were victorious. 7-6 must be our lucky number. November 8, 1935 Mr. Lightner was unable to accompany his team to Delano tonight be- cause he was ill with the flu and his boys didn't know how to act when he wasn't along. They forgot their manners and beat the Tigers 55-0. November 14, 1935 We had an unexpected vacation today. The furnace broke and we were not permitted to stay at school lmuch to our disappointmentl. November 19, 1935 In honor of the heavyweight football team, Coach Lightner gave a ban- quet for them this evening at his home. November 22, 1935 The Girl Reserve-Service Club play was presented tonight at the Hiqh School Auditorium. lt was entitled A'Help Yourself. It certainly was a success. The football boys certainly are lucky. Here is another affair in their honor. After the play, the Girl's Auxiliary sponsored a dance for S. Ll. H. S.'s mightv men of the qirdiron. lt seems that football is much simpler than dancing for some of the boys. December , 1935 The Seniors had a hayride as their class party tonight and from all l hear it was quite a success. December 20, 1935 We had quite a different kind of assembly program today. For some time there has been an argument between the girls' orchestra and the boys' orchestra. Today they had a contest in assembly and it proved to be quite an affair. The Razz-ma-taz-jazz Boys won the contest but the Spartanett7s are not discouraged. The girls will entertain the boys at dinner some time next week. Ianuary 3, 1936 Today was quite a big day. First, it was Homecoming Day. It was a lot of fun to have all of one's former schoolmates back again. Then there was the basketball game. S. U. H. S. played Tulare-and won to make it all the better. And then came the happy ending-the Spartan Knight Dance. Ianuary 4, 1936 The Iunior class defied S. 1.1. H. S. and held its meeting across the road on the airport and decided to have a snow party. Today was the big day and nearly the whole class went to Lodqepole and spent the day. They ate beans-and more beans. George Lewis took motion pictures which will be shown to the student body. M40-
