The Spartan News. as well as the many other activties of the school,
has iust come to the end of a very successful year. There have been several
changes by means of which we have tried to improve the publication. The
edition was offered for sale on Friday instead of Thursday in order to give
more time in which to illustrate and sell it. Also, several more lower-classmen
were added to the staff during the second semester.
The advertisers were very constant in their support of the paper and the

The Home Economics Club has been very active this year. There was
a decided increase in membership: now there is a roll call of thirty-four. The
fifteen new girls who joined the club were initiated by a very interesting and
effective candle light ceremony.
The Home Economics Clubs hold two conventions each year-one in
the fall and one in the spring. The fall conference, held in Tulare, was at-
tended by the following members: La Verne Garrett, Emeline Henry, Gisela
Lorenz, Nadine Ward, and Miss Pratt.
In the spring the most important event for the club was the conference
that was held at Strathmore on March twentieth. The girls felt that it was
a great honor to be able to entertain the delegates from other schools. At
the conference the girls learned what the other clubs were doing and, in this
way, obtained many helpful ideas that would aid in improving the club and
making it more interesting.
During the year, two parties were held-a Christmas party at Nadine
Ward's and a swimming party in the spring.
The members feel that the club has been very interesting and they are
looking forward to even more progress next year.

The Spanish Club was organized to create an interest in Spanish and
Spanish speaking countries.
The club held its meetings everv other Tuesday of the year. During
these meetings, many Spanish songs were sung, games played, lotteries held,
and many other contests were staged. On February eleventh new members
were initiated into the club.
The club presented two assembly programs. The first was a play, a
selection by the orchestra, and a burlesque bull fight. The second consist-
ed of a play partly in Spanish and partly in English.
The club had four parties-a Christmas party, playing the Mexican game
"pinatas": a party celebrating Easter: a party in honor of Cervantes, a famous
Spanish author: and the real fete of the year, a Spanish fiesta. At the last,
many delicious Spanish foods were served, and after dinner there were many
interesting games and music.
During the year, some crossword puzzles were given to the members
to stimulate an interest in increasing their vocabularies. There was a prize
given to the one who finished his puzzle first and had it correct.
The club has accomplished its goal in making members more interested
in learning Spanish and keeping its members interested in increasing their
