"There is sweet music here that softer falls than petals from blown roses on the grass." Tennyson For her love of Stratford, her understanding of people, her willingness to help those who wish to learn about music and life, and her abil- ity to breathe lite and the love of music into her students, we dedicate the 1967 IRIS to Dorothy Tart Putman 5 s, N-Skill Ji 1 in , if -. 1 S I -7' QQ fi" in Foreword Alvoice cries out from the depths of the canyons of our souls, singing the age old chant of wonder at the passing of time a voice demanding recognition in the face of life's challenge. We have found answers, searching together. Yesterday is but the pedestal on which we build our lives and fulfill our dreams, waiting for tomorrow. The past has graced us with fortitude and desire to face the future, which may find its success because of the faces contained on these pages. They understood- They always will- no matter how swift or merciless the hand of time. 1. f ar ,., 'ii Q '- ' .. it Q - 1 7' L.,:L,f 4'fiff'W'YQg A I-A U SRE xi OV, 1 f x ', -. . . 4. 6 21+ U bsph. That's when a group of men formed what is now one of the nation's largest, diversified textile manufacturers, Dan River Mills. For a lang time, until l956, we were content to restrict our growing to the Dan. Now we're growing even more "strange things" all over the South - in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama. And we have over I9,000 people who make sure this growth is uninterrupted and produce beautiful fabrics for millions of consumers here and abroad. So, whether you're looking for fabrics or career opportunities, paddle down one of our rivers and look us over. You'lI be amazed at the things you see.
