In Memoriam
Garland L. Harrison
In the passing of Garland L. Harrison the Strafford
Public schools has lost a conscientious member of the
Board of Education and the community has lost a fine
public-spirited citizen. Garland has served the public
school interests of this community for a long period
of time. Thirteen years of service preceeded the

again requested in 1953 to end with his passing. During
this long service interval many problems have confronted
the board of education in directing a program of
educational opportunity for the students of our school
area. In order that the foundation of a good and lasting school program would be the handiwork of
the board of education and the heritage of our children, careful planning and excellent judgement
is required. To this end the conscientious nature and the best planning of Garland's ability was
given cheerfully to every situation and to every problem confronting the board of education.

THE STRAFFORD SCHOOL SYSTEM MOVES FORWARD
Just as every community throughout our nation attempts to carry its
appropriate part of national progress the Strafford Community is anxious to
make its contribution, too. No nation in the history of the world has ever
demanded so much of education as have the Americans. No other nation has
been served so well as has America,
The demands of the future can be met by our schools, America today is at
her peak of accomplishment in our national history because an enlightened
citizenry has been taught to be self-governing, natinnal unity has been
achieved because our nation has been taught to be none Nation under God,
indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all.H We are proud to be
Americans and we can live and learn equality in America that is not possible
anywhere else in the world.
For three centuries the schools of American communities have served and
strengthened the nation. The people of our nation are as enlightened as any
on the earth. Our people have justified and vendicated democracy's promise,
The goals and the duties of the future that society establishes will be
attained by the American public school system just as surely as the support
and the faith of the people is given.
