This issue of the TORCH is appropriately dedicated to the
Strafford Community. The educational program of the Strafford Public
Schools is determined by the community. Mr. Q Mrs. Citizen, Strafford
are partners in a self-governing country. They pay their taxes for
order, justice, protection, education, and the other services that
good government provides. Whatever they seek they are free in their
quest to find. They believe that their children through freedom and
justice will help establish the progress of America. Thus in the
blessings and obligations of citizenship they share daily and hourly.
We have seen these duties of citizenship in one generation
take on a new dimension--that of world leadership. Reluctantly we
come to accept a larger share of world problems. Human values
throughout the nations of the world are the same as in our own

Now that communism threatens the security of our nation, we
feel a new appreciation for public education because public education
is a sobering force in our unsettled world. America

All six of this year s Beauty Queen
candidates do more than their share of living up
to the OzarAs"trad1t1on as A land Of beautiful
girls Therefore, to have to DICK out only one
from this group
I anticipated.
Since
personally Cunf
has been much more of a job than
I d not know any of the candidates
ortunately.D I have had to base my
judgement solely on the impressions I obtained
from the photographs. Nevertheless, the chore has
been a leasant one and I Qreatly appreciate the

honor of being asked to act as judge.
