HISTORY OF THE CLASS OF '41
On August 31, 1937, 31 freshmen trudged up the walk of an im-p
pressive brick building As we reached the first step we were al
little doubtful, as we reached the second and third we were still moral
doubtful but finally as we reached the door of dear old C H S we
reached it with the realization that the end of our onildhood had been
reached y
Of course ws were greeted with the usual 'boo'eN and Wbahis' and
the name 0' 'vreen freshmen,' but we then and there decided to prove
to them that we werenft green freshmen N
Then came the most dreaded of all the initiation All of is
were to be put under the shower , so our upper olassmen said, but as
wo entered the gym for an assembly program Hr Brown calmly announced
that there were to be no inltiatiors on the campus of S C H a1d
maybe a few Sophomores weren't disappointed'
we then held our first class meeting with Mr Wilson as our casa
ble class advisor do elected Pat Doyle for president, nancy Busan
for vice president and Eunice Larricn for secretary and txeasurer
Then came the weiner roast at Evelyn Huggins hone and later-
several attended the show at Taylorville
As the first six weeks neared its end and the honor roll was
posted upon the bulletin board we were sadly disappointed that no
one'e name was there to represent the 'reshman class But as the
second six weeks rolled by if you noticed carefully you would have
seen that the freshmen had the fewest number of flunks and also the
Geneva Boils name was on the honor roll Good work, Genevai And las
six weeks we d1dn't have any flanks at all
H8 had a good freshmen basket ball squad composed of Juli
Loren ine, Junior 0'Dell, Paul Solliday, Andrew Maruoco, Delma
In the class tournament our boys defeated the grade sohool'n teen
and td? freshmen girlie gym class proudly defeated the sophomore
gym c asa
Then came the ooeretta and when the announcement of the cast came
uc, Lunice Larrick also came up with a leading part, and Nancy Buzen
Virginia Burleigh, Evelyn Huggins, Geneva Bolle, Gladys OLDell Cleo
Devore, ard Catherine Lemaire were included in the supporting cast
Eunice Larrick, very capable of representing our class in music
represented it in the preliminary contests last March with the song,
'I Love Life '
