28 THE FIHHTI li EE EHAL5 and a Year nn the Briilirnn Coach Shorty Fields, head athletic mentor of Stonewall Jackson High School, did an ex- cellent job during the past football season. Under his tutorage the team won six and lost four games of a 'ten-game schedule. With this type of work Stonewall fans can expect some - fine teams in the future. Lower insert, Bob Edele draws back to heave C oach Shorty Fields seemingly had a great deal to worry a long pass about in regard to this year's gridiron eleven, for twelve men were graduated from last year's squad, and at the very beginning of this season, injuries began to take a heavy toll among the players. But to the surprise of everyone the '4l edition of the Generals was the best to date. Here is a very brief summary of the past football season: September 20-Stonewall Jackson opened their season with a bang by defeating Du Pont I4-7. September 27-Spencer's Yellow Jackets lost to Stonewall I 25-19. October 4-The Stonies went on a scoring spree in defeating Seth 25-6. October IO-ln a 'game.under' thei lights the Fieldsmen scorched the Oak Hill Red Devils I8-6. Octoberl7-The Generals plastered a I2-7 win over East Bank's Pioneers. October 24--Stone- wall met its first defeat of the season at the hands of Huntington East by a Z4-7 count. October 31-The Generals came back in this Hallowe'en tussle to trim Beckley High 20-O. November 8-Dunbar pulled the upset of the season by defeating Stonewall l2-6. November l4-Logan continued Stonewall's losing streak by trouncing us l4-O. November 20-ln the major game of the season, the Stonies lost a heartbreaker to a strong Mountain Lion eleven from Charleston High by a 7-O count.
