DEDICATIO
11824-18631
It 15 more than an ordinary circumstance that this fir st annual
of the Stonewall Jackson High School is dedicated to Lieutenant
General Thomas Jonathan Jackson C S A
It is because here in Shenandoah County many of its finest sons
became members of the Stonewall Brigade, one of the most xllus
trious organizations of military men known in all the annals of
It is also because among all the great men of our nation no one
today captures more strikingly the admiration of the high school
student nor affords a stronger pattern of human character than
the beloved leader of the Stonewall Brigade, "Stonewal1 ' Jackson
And because of Stonewall Jackson's unblemished Christian char
acter because of his fearless courage in peace and in war, because
ofhis masterfuluse in his people's service of his God given talents
and skills and because these traits deserve emulation by the youth
of our land, this annual is dedicated to him

MESSAGE
This year we have been privileged with the op-
portunity of continuing our educational objectives in
an attractive new building which represents the fore-
sight of those of astute faith in the opportunity of ed-
ucation for all, and dedicated to the cause of provid-
ing the best possible education for the youth in order
that they might best meet the challenges oftomorrow.
Here youth is being given the opportunity to prepare
thernselves for a full life in a land that has grown and
prospered because our forebearers made possible
opportunity for a free and religious people. lt re-
presents a guarantee of continuance of a worthy way
of life through education for freedom-lovixig people.
Our way of life is a heritage - a heritage that
stands above that of all nations because it evolved
from the profound belief in freedom and opportunity
for all men under God. This heritage is passed onto
you. It is passed on in a most humble manner, know-
ing you will cherish it, nurture it, and champion it in
all your future.

During the months which have passed, this faculty
has continually progressed in its educational endeav-
ors by molding itself into a smooth-working, well-
balanced organization, preparing its students for their
new role in the world's history.
This spirit of progress will never die in our
school. We know that Stonewall Jackson High School
will always be a leader in the fight for the advance-
ment of humanity, and will ever be carried forward
as a banner for men to live by - a banner that strives
for PROGRESS.
FACULTY
We stand on the threshold of a new and challeng-
ing opportunity. When the doors of Stonewall Jackson
High School were first opened for educational pur-
poses this past September, the faculty assembled
with one major objective in mind - that ofprofession-
al unity in providing the students of Stonewall with
the best preparation to meet their needs in this chang-
ing world.

The old saying, "Time flies," is certain-
ly true! It was only last year that we
watched our seniors say a sad goodbye to
the old familiar halls, where we had spent
our happy eleven years.
Nowwe, as seniors, have arrived! New
situations brought new problems and new
faces, but also unity and cooperation be-
tweenthe new students. It is indeed a great
privilege for us to be the first graduating
class of this lovely Stonewall Jackson High
School.

SOPHOMGRE
We the students of the first Sophomore
class at Stonewall Jackson High School have
a lot in store for us. Although many of our
faces were unfamiliar at the first of the year,
we have grown to become a strong and close
working class.
I know we shall always do our best in
everything we attempt in our remaining years
of high school and shall look forward to our
graduating together.

Time passes. The knowledge of the world
enlarges and changes the shape of our future.
For us, the present freshmen and future soph-
mores, time also passes, and knowledge is also
gained, enlarged, and used. High school chal-
lenges us, and we shall meet this challenge. We
shall meet and perhaps raise the standards of
our newly Constructed high school. We hope to
leave a challenge to the future freshmen, achal-
lenge of meeting and raising the level of the pre-
sent call, and to our class, our officers, and our
representatives, fond memories of the freshmen
class of 59-60.

The Future Farmers of America is a national organization for farm boys studying
agriculture and only boys enrolled in Vocational Agriculture can become members. The
primary aim of the FFA is the development of agriculture leadership cooperation, and
citizenship. The organization has been active this year and the members have participated
in many contests, besides sending representatives to the State Fair, where they received
knowledge about the latest farming methods.

This first year at Stonewall found the boys engaging in an entirely new sport, not onlyfor them,
but for this section of Shenandoah County.
Football has been a long time coming and it arrived with an enthusiastic welcome from the
players, school, and spectators. In completing this first year the boys laid the foundation for all,
who in years to come will use the privilege of wearing the maroon, grey and white. This privilege
will be extended to those who show the spirit, determination, and sportsmanship, which made our
first season memorable.
